Hardware:

XFX 750a motherboard

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6000+ CPU

GeForce 8300 with dual DVI & RGB outputs video (do I need to disable any?)

nForce RAID controller, set to RAID (5 drives in RAID5, 1 drive for Win7) Not detected, can I use it?

JMicron JMB363 (for a BluRay DVD DVDRW & eSATA) Not detected, can I use it?

eSATA + USB dock (I can only install it using it as USB for external drive)

external USB DVD drive (Optiarc DVD CDRW combo) I can only install using this one

Marvel Yukon 88E8056 (found it in the list of network devices)

4GB (1gb x 4) memory

I can install it but it gets stuck on the grey screen with silver apple in the middle, tried -v but the words dissapear into a black screen, no drive activity after this. Even tried -x it just shows more text and same result at the end, same black screen.

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

AFIK it is still the case that you cannot run MOBO/BIOS native software RAID i.e. fake-RAID with OS X (ONLY Apple's own OS X software RAID), although hardware RAID using a RAID PCI-E card may work..... e.g. with Sil3124 orSil3132 chipsets....

Also you most likely need to use the AppleNForceATA.kext for your SATA HDDs to be recognised when not RAIDed via BIOS......

NOTE: I have several x86 installer DVD's

10.5.1 (not sure by who, Leo / ToH ?)

10.5.2 Kalyway

10.5.6 XxX X86

10.5.7 iDeneb 1.5.1

10.5.8 iDeneb 1.6 (10.5.5 patched?)

10.6.2 Leo Hazzard (Client/Server)

10.6.3 iATKOS S3 v2

They all hang at the silver screen with the grey apple, some make it to the spinning circle..

Thanks! I guess I will not be using my RAID 5 (or Win 7 drive) any time soon. It's a 6tb RAID 5 and it's halfway full, can't switch controllers.

What about the JMicron JMB363? When it posts (on BIOS) it shows IDE:(the DVD) and IDE:(the external drive when NOT plugged in USB but on the installer it doesn't show up as a useable drive)

I can live with using all USB but I can't get it to boot after I install it. Somewhere I am missing something? Is it the CPU? Any CPU setting? The video card? It does show the silver screen with grey apple, so it must be recognizing the video? The network card is listed in the install and selected. Any special x86 install DVD I need to use that has a patch for the CPU or video maybe?

Im frustrated because I can't see anything in -v mode so I can troubleshoot it...

I recommend that you initially install OS X Leopard using a AMD compatible Install DVD distro such as:

LawlessPPC-10.5.4-Phenom-AMD

iATKOS 4a AMD

Leo4Allv4.1 AMD

iPC 10.5.6

iDeneb V1.4 10.5.6 etc.

to set up two OS X volumes on your HDD and then install Leopard on one of the volumes to figure out exactly what you need to do boot and run OS X Leopard on your system......and then use Leopard to help you install OS X Snow Leopard on your second HDD volume...........also, see this AMD Retail Snow Leopard install guide............

I wish I would have seen this reply!!! But that's exactly what I did!! Thanks!

I got iPC and installed it using Voodoo 9.5.0, seatbelt, AppleVIAATA, Natit and then downloaded Marvel Yukon 88E8056 from kexts.com and in less than 1/2 hour I was online! ;) I downloaded the 10.5.8 update combo (just for fun) following some instructions I found on google. (copied mach_kernel to working_kernel & extensions folder) then when restarted, used /working_kernel -f and then replaced system, seatbelt & other kexts needed by my hardware, copied working_kernel to mach_kernel and on 2nd reboot I was sitting on my desktop with everything except sound working (including my hp laserjet 1012 printer :))

I now installed iATKOS S3 v2, got it working but wanted to update to 10.6.8 (or 10.6.7 if I can't update to 10.6.8) I was reading that only way is to update to 10.6.7 then to 10.6.8?

Thanks!!!
