h2g2guy
I've been trying to build a triplebooted Hackintosh system for a few weeks, and I've finally managed to get Windows 7, Snow Leopard, and Ubuntu Natty Narwhal running off the same hard drive. Unfortunately, my attempts to get Chameleon to chainload into grub2 simply didn't work. On the bright side of things, though, when I tried to install grub to the MBR, it did manage to figure out most of the proper settings I needed to at least boot into OS X with no special configuration required. However, it did cause a big problem. While my two GTX 460 graphics cards never did work exactly right for obvious reasons, any sort of animation of any kind has become just painfully slow since my install of grub2. Upon startup, the dock takes forever to move up onto the screen. It takes a full four seconds for windows to minimize and restore using the genie effect. The blue highlight showing what you have selected no longer moves smoothly from item to item, and when the menu closes, it takes a while for it to fade away. I'd like to emphasize that nothing except animations were affected by this. Opening a new window takes the same amount of time, because it just appears on the screen. The mouse still moves smoothly over the screen. Web pages pop up just the same (though the rotating loading icon in Google Chrome moves at a snail's pace). Actually, on doing a little bit of research, I think the problem might have something to do with the system's timing. When I have the date and time settings open, the second hand ticks about 6 times more slowly than it should (that is, one tick approximately every 6 seconds). This effect is matched by the system clock in the upper right hand corner. For example, I just synced the clock with Apple's servers at approximately 10:53 PM. According to another reliable timekeeping device, the time now is 11:01. But my Hackintosh is currently reporting the time as 10:54. Also, since grub was installed, I'm getting two new errors on boot up. Both are repeated somewhere between 10 to 25 times. The first is: Sound assertion "0 == entry" failed in "/SourceCache/AppleHDA/AppleHDA-179.1.4/AppleHDA/AppleHDA Engine.cpp" at line 3222 goto Exit The last few times I get this error, it's at line 3189 instead. The second is: Sound assertion ""ERROR: EFI ROM did not publish 'hda-gfx' associative property!\n"" failed in "/SourceCache/AppleHDA/AppleHDACodecGeneric.cpp" at line 331 goto ExitError Has anyone had an issue like this in the past? How would I go about fixing this problem? Thank you! EDIT: System specifications below. h2g2guy
I've been doing some experimentation. I removed AppleHDA.kext and HDAEnabler892.kext from /S/L/E, and installed VoodooHDA.kext using ##### (making sure to check the options for rebuilding caches and repairing permissions). When attempting to restart, I got a kernel panic before the system shut down (but without the multilingual popup). On boot up, fsck (or whatever the name of that program is) found an error on the partition and repaired it, but I got a kernel panic. On the next restart, the same thing happened, but without the kernel panic; the system booted normally without the errors listed in my last post. However, the problem is not resolved. Animations are still as slow as ever. I also noticed that my About This Mac has apparently changed from the correct, Intel i7-2600K @ 3.4 GHz to 3.8 GHz Unknown. I also noticed that I neglected to provide my system specifications. Apologies; they are edited into the first post.
