Hi!

I have an HP Pavilion dv5178us laptop. This machine is:

- Intel Core Duo 1.66GHz

- 1GB RAM

- DVD-RAM combo drive

- nVidia Geforce Go 7400

- 15.4" widescreen

- bluetooth/wireless

I could install 10.4.6 sucessfully from JaS pre-patched DVD in a 12GB primary partition. Installed also the 10.4.6.Combo.Update and INTEL.SSE3 packages. For dual boot I used the chain0 method.

After instalation I could boot sucessfully but it stucks in the "Welcome" screen. After a long time the mouse cursor appears and I can click on "Continue" button but then it stuck again and I gave up after 20 min. I tried with -x, platform=X86PC and platform=ACPI options but the results are the same.

Already searched for answers in this forum without success. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Arnaldo

Booted with -x -s options and noticed that mDNSResolver was the cause of long time to get into the Welcome screen. I used the 'enter', 'exit' trick and quickly get to the Welcome but then stuck again.

Any ideas? Anything else I need to install? Any package?

Cheers,

Arnaldo

I also notice a long wait in such places, but not that long.

Seems it's near the point where it asks us to register and send info to apple, an optional step but which causes a long wait while it tries to connect to the net.

I faintly remember reading about a key combination to avoid this registering step, but don't remember the details, and don't know if it would skip that waiting period.

Doesn't help much, sorry.

/edit: ok, found the link: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?s=&...ost&p=36841

Command Q when the stupid Apple registration screen comes up right after installing.

I don't know if this will avoid the long wait after installation for you though.

Got it working! The cause of problem was the BIOS bug related to the thermal sensor as described in this link:

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?act...=18&t=13339

After disabling the thermal sensor I could get the system to boot correctly. Screen resolution was resolved with np_ nVidia drivers v1.0.8.

Now working on the ethernet and wireless connection...
