cclloyd9785
So I managed to install Lion, and was wondering... Am I able to use Time Machine with a wireless hard drive other than Time Capsule? I planned on getting a 4TB Blackarmor Seagate wireless drive if I can. You can use a generic external USB disk. Lion keeps the backups mirrored locally even if the external storage has been unplugged - yes it does, dont ask me how it is done but you can flip through the versions and time without a TM attached.. nissefar
You can use a router that supports TomatoUSB and install Netatalk through Optware. This will allow you to share USB drives over the router as an AFP (Apple File Protocol or something), which will allow you to run Time Machine on it. cclloyd9785
Well I don't have a router that supports that, and I want a wireless drive, so since they cost around the same price, I might as well get a time capsule. Thank you both of you. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/264971-time-machine-without-time-capsule/#findComment-1731981 Share on other sites
