Hi everyone I'm quite new to this 'hackintosh' thing, I tried my luck on a Packard Bell J2412 using the ##### and ##### method.

I've got quite far, the sound, disk drives, usb all work fine. I installed an ATI Radeon HD 4650 and have got that working 100%.

Only two issues now...

The onboard ethernet is a Realtek 8139 and it works but with really slow performance and with a constant stream of 'RTL8139::receiverInterrupt - Rx restart' errors every second. I've tried all the different methods and kext files to try and fix the problem but to no avail. So I've disabled it in the bios and I plan to buy another card.

Any suggestions on a card that'll work pretty much straight out the box?

The other issue is the whole system runs smoothly but now and again it'll freeze/lock up and I'll have to reach for the power button! It seems random, as in I'll click something as simple as the finder in the dock and it'll beachball. Then its hard reset time. This is what I got from the console the last time it occurred:

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It still seems to be freezing/hanging leading to a reboot with the power button. These occurrences seem to be completely random, it normally beach balls and then freezes, but the cursor can still be used.

I noticed a couple of things in console, it doesn't seem to log any particular errors when the freeze happens but on reboot this appears in the log: npvhash 4095

and this as well: previous shutdown cause: 3

The system runs quite smoothly other than these random freezes.

Can anyone shed any light on this? Don't wanna have to go back to windows!

Sorry to hear you're having trouble too! I'm running 10.6.8, running in 64 bit. I managed to fix the internet issue by disabling the on board ethernet port and installing a TG-3269 pci card which has a Realtek 8169 chip in it. It works but after about half an hour the connection drops and I have to restart.

I'm still getting the freezing issue as well, seems to be completely random. The system runs so smoothly and it'll just lock up without even doing anything strenuous. Read somewhere about a possible issue with the appleviadriver so I'll look into that next.

Have you had any joy fixing the freezing?

Joy? Depends on what way you look at it! I'd think that everyone here on insanely mac gets something out of solving problems or working with computers at such a level as to get OS X to work on custom hardware, otherwise I really am strange.. ^_^

This problem however has been a dead end for me. I'm not able to find much on it online. The little I have found gives me the suspect of the "IOSurface: buffer allocation size is zero" issue that many people are having, hackintosh or genuine macs alike. Another suspect is i think my startup partition has some kind of error and the OS tries to remount it and fails, resulting in everything freezing because it cannot read/write to the root partition.

If you open "Console" in Applications > Utilities, then select the "Kernel.log" in the console window, you'll see if we're having the same issue.

My kernel.log is filled with "IOSurface: buffer allocation size is zero"

Sound familiar to anyone?

I have installed iatkos s3 v2 10.6.3 and it also random freezes. But when I press the power button I can not boot anymore. So what I have done to remedy this is turn off sleep mode and turn off that the hdd can go to sleep. That helped me and I have been using it without freezing because when the hdd would turn off there was no way to wake it up again. Hope it helps one of u
