hello everybody. the idea of having osx on pc is really cool and i'd like to know everything about it. i'm dl/ing it now and i have lots of questions to ask.

1. i was thinking of getting a new sata hd to install osx 86 on (this way i can dual boot by changing the boot sequence in bios) right???

2. can osx86 recognise and be installed on sata hd? or do i need to patch it or something???

my motherboard is an Abit KV8 pro, and according to the compatibility description:

Same as 10.4.4 and 10.4.5:No Gigabit LAN. AC97 Audio (Onboard), SATA support with AppleVIAATA.kext. Works great have to use a few kexts from older ver of 10.4.3. IOUSBFamily.kext, IOATAFamily.kext, IOPCIFamily.kext

wat are all the .kexts? are they patches?where do i get them? do i need them?

Btw i am getting 10.4.6(jas) does this already have sata patched?

sooo...could some kind souls please answer all my questions and more..

any help would be greatly appreciated

Right...

Firstly try not to give your topics a similar title to "HELP!!", but try, instead to give us some preliminary detail about your problem (this is just a minor piece of etiquete.

1. SATA isnt incredibly well supported in OS X 86 at the mo. There are ways to change the way it works in the BIOS (thats what I do), and there are patches etc. but if you are new to OSX86 and don't want to do any hacking then your best bet is just to avoid SATA.

2. a .kext is a "Kernel Extension" the way they are used most frequently is to store drivers etc. - so just think of them as that for now - drivers.

You will see members produce their own .kext which will allow you to use a certain piece of hardware in OSX86 for example.

Of course they can be used for other things but that is for another time :(.
