Hello,

I have a fully functional mac os x 10.6.3 iATKOS, and now I want to update to 10.6.8, so I did it with #####, and now when I boot it just stops at Checking catalog file, and when I try to use console (-s -x) it just freezes and I cant type anything. So, how to upgrade to 10.6.8 and make it workable?

Hello! I used to keep a backup of the file mach_kernel found on / I had a dual boot MacOS and Windows, so after every backup (eg from 10.6.2 to 10.6.3 and so on) I booted into Windows and copied the backup mach_kernel file to / replacing the new one (I used MacDrive in Windows). So I could do all the updates and still have a working MacOS! But all that up to 10.6.7 When I did 10.6.8 update the above trick didn't work and now my MacOS installation doesn't boot! So find and download the 10.6.7 update if you want the latest, but avoid 10.6.8 Make sure you backup mach_kernel and that you have a way to restore it (maybe using the installation DVD-ROM) after the update, otherwise your MacOS installation will never work again!
