syltman
Hello, I've been trying to get mac os x to work for a while now. What I did was installing IatkOs s3 (It's version 1.6.3). Now that I try to update to 1.6.8 to get graphics to work it still seems that I get stuck on PCI configuration begin, what I tried to do is installing the combo update and then once it was complete install the IOPCI fix from ##### and then also I checked the option to update kext cache. It seems like it doesn't do that however. I've also tried manually deleting the mkext file (the .kextcache file didn't exist). It may be that it does infact rebuild but it doesn't seem to be that as it loads very quick and I only see like a couple kexts being loaded (when it should be alot more). Also use the IOUSBFamily Rollback from #####. OR (I used this, recommended) Use the AppleACPIPaltform.kext and the IOPCIFamily.kext from Snow Leopard 10.6.7(attached file). This is what worked for me. Use ##### to install the kexts, repair the permissions of your main disk using Disk Utility, and reboot. Ok, neat but the question is how I will transfer the files over. I guess I could load a live cd and the via terminal copy over the files from a usb over to the mac. Or can I only get the IOUSBFamily rollback from ##### :S? WallyFTW
Booting with "npci=0x2000" fixed the "PCI Configuration Begin" hang. Add it to the com.apple.boot.plist to prevent having to type it each time. M92ManTis
@WallyFTW The flag npci=0x2000 didn't work for me, and I was in exactly the same situation he is in. @syltman, yes, you could either use the Terminal from the installer disc... or you could reinstall the OS, and BEFORE rebooting, you could copy the kexts, rebuild cache, repair permissions, and THEN, reboot. That's what I did, anyway. EDIT: Ok, neat but the question is how I will transfer the files over. I guess I could load a live cd and the via terminal copy over the files from a usb over to the mac. No, the two methods are different, either use my SLkexts.zip, or use the IOUSBFamily Rollback. I doubt that even the rollback fix will make it work, my method is recommended. EDIT: Perhaps it could be that the dvd I use is version 1.6.3 and then I use the combo upgrade pack (that says it needs version 1.6.7) to upgrade could have something to do with the error. EDIT 2: did you say the IOUSBFamily Rollback is another method? Guess I can try that then. Edit 3: Or could it be that if you have both of the kexts methods installed, will it conflict? I'll try reinstalling and then get IOUSBFamily rollback, SLKexts, IOPCI fix Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/263285-unable-to-rebuild-kext-cache/#findComment-1726571 Share on other sites
syltman
So after what I think was atleast 10 reinstallations I finally got past PCI configuration begin. The next problem is now that I have no usb. I did the following, 1. installed iatkos s3 2. installed combo update 3. installed iousbfamily rollback in ##### (selected that option only) 4. installed the SLkext the dude above provided by putting them in system/library/extensions 5. set permission 0:0 and 755 to /extra and /system/library/extensions 6. removed the com.apple.kext.caches folder/file 7. rebooted.
