chase007
This post is about the Airport Atheros 21 (AR5BXB72) Wifi PCie card which I have in my Acer 8730 laptop. Overview: I bought the card from someone breaking a Macbook Pro. Card works fine, turns on, connects and is very fast. Great! But wait... This is the problem: If I boot my laptop using the bootloader (0.8.5Pre) on my internal hard drive, the card will not turn on and knocks out my ethernet card. Also, the network preferences panel takes an age to load, as does the initial boot-up. However (and this is the mystery) ---------------------------------------- If I boot from my external usb hard drive, using the same version bootloader, and start OS X on the internal hard drive, it works!!! In fact, I have a backup partition on the external drive, if I boot this, or the internal in the laptop, using the external bootloader, all works. Try booting from the internal only, no wifi. Now this has got me stumped. I've even formatted the internal and restored the working external partition. Again, same end result, external and internal work if I start the laptop using the external bootloader. Boot from internal only and again, no wifi. Anyone got any clues? Any help would be appreciated, I don't usually ask for help unless I've spent many hours trying everything I know first. Thank you. FYI: Have checked and doubled-checked permissions, all general extensions kexts and settings in IO80211.kext Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/263149-airport-atheros-21-ar5bxb72-wifi-pcie-card/ Share on other sites
