Hi,

I started with the deadmoo image, and have gradually got most things working well enough.

Networking remains a little strange.

It never works from a cold start. The system either won't come up, or it comes up but the custom icons don't appear on the desktop... just ordinary folders. For example, the hard disks do not look like hard disks, they just look like folders.

When this happens, I have no IP address and the system can't detect any networking hardware.

If I reboot, most of the time, it comes up fine and everything works.

This problem only happens at startup. Once I am past it, I can even restart as often as I like and it works each time; it's some first-time initialization problem.

I am on an Intel D865PERL motherboard, using the built-in ethernet.

Any ideas?

I should add that, when the problem happens (and only then), I see this in /var/log/system.log:

Sep 16 20:13:42 localhost configd[46]: com.apple.SystemConfiguration.ATconfig load failed

I'm trying to learn, via Google, what that is. Anyone know?

SUCCESS. :)

The problem, along with another (intermittent panic on boot, various error messages which changed each time), seems to have been resolved by removing the com.apple.AppleFPMemDriver kext.

Nice to finally have a system that boots each time, and with everything (except 3D acceleration for my ATI Radeon 9800 Pro) working.
