I'm working on my second hackintosh machine and I'm stumped on this problem. When i boot up OSX SL 10.6.8 my machine only sees 4 cores, when i go into the activity monitor and click on the activity box for the processor it comes up with 8 boxes, but box 2, 4, 6, and 8 (or 1, 3, 5, and 7 if you count box one as 0..) don't show any activity no matter what i do.

I've searched and searched but can not find anything about this. The only thing i can think to do is edit the DSDT to see all 8 cores (since 4 are virtual due to ht) but I have no idea how, or is this not possible at all?

One final thing is, how can i get SL to see a i7-950 insteal of "Quad-Core Intel Xeon"?

Any help is much appreciated, thanks.

My Specs:

Intel Core i7-950 (Normal Clock Speed)

Asus Sabertooth x58

3 x 2GB DDR3 Patriot @ 1600Mhz

nVidia GeForce GTX 470 1.2GB GDDR5

They don't show up as cores in hardware overview, but your system is recognizing them properly since you have 8 boxes displaying in the activity monitor.

Alright, so if it's recognizing them properly, why isn't it actually using them? No matter what i push it to do, I see no response on 4 of the threads. Even 3D rendering didn't show any activity. I mean if it's not a big problem than so be it, I just want the most power out of the processor, that's all.

Double check your BIOS settings to make sure that HyperThreading is enabled, then try running Geekbench to see if all 8 threads show activity.

Should look like this:
