Hello!

I decided to update my chameleon rc5 to the latest revision. After that my ATI HD4850 stopped working. After boot it shows some weird artifacts. Ofc, GraphicsEnabler in my com.apple.boot.plist is set to yes.

I've read sth about aty.c module for chameleon and if someone could tell me more about that it would be great.

Thanks.

Try booting with -x and then if you make it to the desktop then simply swap the boot file in your root directory ( in windows its c: in most cases) with the old one that works.

And there might be a key setting in the com.apple.Boot.plist for what frame buffer to engage?

To boot in safe mode: You simply hit the keys to input " - " then "x" at the time you see the Chameleon screen. Hit the space bar to hold the boot process once you splash on the Chameleon screen, no need to hurry. Last hit "return/enter"

I would try also to rebuild mkext with the correct utility from kext.com or tonymac #####.

Or simply reinstall the Chameleon that works... if it isn't broken or adds anything beneficial for your install why change it? Don't do it just because the other guys with completely different hardware are doing it.

If all that fails then post your "com.apple.Boot.plist" whats written in it! And Chameleon version. Clarity will surely come with much more details of your install.

CarbonCopyCloner will save your bacon! Next time use a simple 10gigabyte space and have a back up before updating or tinkering. Will save you a lot of time and you can snatch the kexts if needed for updates that go wrong.

You can also get into your Mac OS X with Transmac using Windows to adjust your E/E kexts and com.apple.Bootplist

Sorry if Im ranting, just trying to help... all is good and asking for help is most wise.
