3.14r2
Check Extra folder on CD. Compare that is there and on your HDD (kexts, configuration files (esp. com.apple.Boot.plis)). shorinji
Check Extra folder on CD. Compare that is there and on your HDD (kexts, configuration files (esp. com.apple.Boot.plis)). Many thanks for your reply. I did check that and everything was the same. The only thing i can think of is that when i boot from ##### cd it refuses a lot of kext and reuses others. Where booting from hdd it doesnt do that. I have since given up. But am contenplating whether to try again. It could be a problem with my setup, as my biggest problem is getting the via to be reconised. I have done my research and have tried many ways to get osx86 on pc. If anyone can point me in the right direction as the best way to go with my setup i would be much appreciated. 3.14r2
The Chameleon versions on CD and on HDD are probably different. Different versions provide different functionality. Try to copy all necessary files (/Extra dir and boot file) from CD to HDD. shorinji
ok i see what your saying. I thought that new versions would add the same support but with different or newer functions. So basically its going to be a trial and error with selecting the right bootloader for my setup? If this is the case could i just keep adding bootloaders and they will be override the old ones? Another thing out of curiosity. I installed 10.5.6 first time round and everything ran ootb. Could it be possible to update to say 10.6.8 and use the same kext files like, chipset, ethernet etc that i had running on 10.5.6? Many thanks for taking the time to help. :-) Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/262088-iboot/#findComment-1713716 Share on other sites
3.14r2
So basically its going to be a trial and error with selecting the right bootloader for my setup? If this is the case could i just keep adding bootloaders and they will be override the old ones? More or less. Chameleon (in one way or another) should be present on the CD. Therefore one may copy at least some of its files (boot for instance). Then you add a new boot loader, files of a previous boot loader are overwritten by new ones. Could it be possible to update to say 10.6.8 and use the same kext files like, chipset, ethernet etc that i had running on 10.5.6?It depends on kext versions used. For instance some kexts might be both SL/Leopard compatible, some on the contrary might be only SL or only Leopard compatible. As well there might be 32 or 64 bit (or both) versions. Then I did an upgrade from Leo (X.5.8) to SL (X.6.8) on my desktop PC, it was a clean install (first it was a separate 2.5' IDE HDD, just to test how it works, then the main OS X drive). Non of the Leopard kexts were usable in SL, all had to be replaced with SL version. Furthermore, SL needs FakeSMC.kext, which is not used with Leopard. So, unfortunately a direct upgrade is not that simple. Instead of doing a direct upgrade, you may keep the existing Leopard install (either cloned to a spare HDD or on its present HDD) and use a dedicated HDD to install SL, then transfer files and/or settings from Leopard to SL. In this manner all you files and/or settings will be present in SL as it would be in case of the direct upgrade (SL installed other Leopard) but without any risk to loose anything important.
