hey all I'm new to the forum, but I'de just like to start by thanking you all for making this community possible ;). I love Mac OS X soo much, I just don't have the money for one so yeah here's the current situation.

I haven't tried installing it yet, the DL is still going...I would just like to ask about some thing's that other's have gone through with my hardware, and perhaps give me some tips or stuff to watch out for. here's the specs:

1.6GHz Pentium M (supports SSE, SSE2 :) )

512MB DDR2 Ram

40GB HD

Mobility Radeon X300 PCIe 64MB (dedicated)

Intel PRO/Wireless 2915ABG (anyone know if it's possible to get this to work??)

DVD RW drive.

ok well first off, let's start with the video card... is it possible to get it working perfectly? (or atleast, mostly).

also, the Wireless card I am especially concerned about, I hear this particular one doesn't work, but I am a tweaker/hacker. I like to go indepth and mess with thing's untill this work, I'm just wondering how flexible Mac OS X is, like is it possible to hack such thing's and make them work, unless someone has made driver's for them.

Also, I am wondering about the ACPI stuff, how well does the battery life work? also, can anyone really give me any tip's based off experience or alot of accurate knowledge, what I should expect and/or watch out for, and what I can do to make it work.

I think that's all for now, thanks a billion to all those who reply. If I am missing any information please post and ask me. also I may ask more questions as they come to mind. thank you :)

Just installed osx86 on my old work dell dimension 3000. without a hitch, only thing not working is the soundblaster live! card, which doesn't have any support for mac osx :P (would be nice to find someone with any ideas though!) but apart from that, swoit. it also has a {censored} geforce 128mb fx5200 pci card in it it that works fine.

umm... what exactly did that have to do with anything I was asking? you have no experience with my system, you're system specs are COMPLETELY different from mine.. please keep it rellevant...

what are you talking about all dell's are made the same ;)

btw the way the wiki is there for a reason...on the main page is a section called...HCL look through it...this was pulled from the 10.4.5 portion...

User 5: Pentium M / Centrino 2 GHz, ATI X300 128MB, Broadcom 10/100 Ethernet, 8X DVD+/-RW DL 1 GB DDR2 RAM, 10 GB Hard Drive

- 10.4.5 setup ran smoothly

User 6: Centrino 750 2 go DDR Ati X300 128 Mo

- Work fine !!

-but no Wireless 2200bg !

Universally Broken:

- Intel WLAN 2915ABG

- Intel mini-PCI 2200bg

- SecureDigital card slot

User 7:

Intel Pentium M 730 1.6Ghz w/533FSB

512MB DDR2 RAM

40GB HD with Windows XP Home

80GB USB External Enclosure with Mac OS X 10.4.5

ATI Radeon X300 128MB

SONY D56A 8x DVD burner

Intel Pro Wireless 2200

Internal Broadcom 440x ethernet

Installation went VERY smoothly on my USB external enclosure. NO NEED FOR A DONGLE!!, at least not for me. I chainload it from my windows hard drive to get it to boot up.

The only drawbacks are the SD slot and the Wireless Intel Pro 2200 not working. Everything else works fine.

For the ATI x300, QE&CI are working fine after applying koverg's patch. You won't be able to make the resoultion any higher though. You will be stuck at 1024x768.

User 8:

- Intel Pentium M 1.86 Ghz 533Mhz FSB (no SSE3)

- 768MB DDR RAM

- 60GB External Drive (boots from bios)

- ATI x300 mobility 128MB (works with koverg's patch/screen tearing present at 1600x1200)

- Intel Pro Wireless 2915 (does not work)

- Broadcom 440x ethernet 10/100 (works fine)

Just a heads up...many people before you have tried to hack the intel wireless chipsets into working...however if you are a serious hack/tinkerer then more power to ya!

I'm going to be running 10.4.7, not .5. also, I didn't feel the wiki was detailed enough for me (it really wasen't) I don't know what people mean by screen tearing, etc. so the wiki isant detailed enough for me, it really isant a crime to ask for people who actually have done it before to tell me aboiut they're experiences.. since the people who wrote up the wiki entry on that system obviously didn't feel like putting in details.

I do have respect for these guy's/people/anything. I've read the wiki, on my machine it didn't appear to have as much info as I wanted. you see, I am willing to tweak my system to the end, I just want to know some basic thing's, is it really soo hard to answer? honestly, ask your self that. Isant it easier to give the information one seeks rather then think of a clever response to contradict one's cry for help?

also, only 2 people attempted to help me, one said something completely different... and one quoted the wiki, no offence to these people, I appriciate the attempt, but both attempt's were useless.

acutally if it weren't so quick to say the info i gave you was useless you would realize if it works in 10.4.5 that means it'll probably be alright in any version seeing as they all share the same kernel. The only thing that you might need to do is get the kext(drivers) from 10.4.5 because those seem to work. However you may be able to install 10.4.7 without any trouble...

by the way not everyone here owns your laptop so if some offers to show you the best info they can give, you may have to do your own research to modify it for your own system.

if your looking for easy answers to everything this may not be the install for you because you may have to do alot of research and hacking to get your laptop working...you won't be able to get a simple straight forward answer for everything you "want" all the time...

good luck.... :P

ps prepare for your wireless to not work....

lol trust me I got the same dosage of that with Linux :P. well the wireless...hmm... is it possible to get it working with tweaking of any sort? also, as long as my video card works well I don't think I'll have too huge of an issue, mostly. because video acceleration is basically essential.. wireless is kinda essential for me, but I can live without it if I absolutly HAVE to. but I think it can be tweaked, does anyone know if its actually within possibility's to tweak the wireless card to work? (note: my friend is getting OSX for me so I wont be testing this for a few day's yet.)

but yeah, thanks wondergod for you're replys, I was merely wondering if it has the possiblity to be tampered with, I was also VERY worried about my video drivers. hopefully they work lol. ATI is quite favored so I will assume with tweaking its entirely possible :thumbsdown_anim:.

I've exactly the same laptop as you do:

OS X 10.4.5 installed and working great. For the Radeon card you have to install the fixed 003 release of Callisto (omni.starchaser.org) for resolution changes and Koverg's patch for QE & CI support.

What doesn't work:

-wireless networking

-SD card slot

-some mouse artifacts

-video doesn't wake up from sleep

mouse artifacts? what exactly do those look like? lol, also I thought there was a remedy for those? SD card slot= no biggy, I never use it. Wireless Networking...hmm.... I bet it can be hacked... Video not waking up from sleep...theres definately a hack for that. but yeah, thanks for the info man :D
