Ok.. I'm new to all of this and am only posting now because I've tried everything that makes sense to me after reading forum post after post all over the web to try to get this to work.

So.. long story short... I'm running a GA-EP45-DS3L board with a XFX 5770 in it (yeah I know.. I've seen mention of potential problems with that board, but it's what I've got)

I can install and set up my retail 10.6.3 disk no problem... everything is cruising along just fine initially with the exception that it seems the system is running some type of generic video driver, and both my screens are mirrored and running at 1024x768. No big deal I figure.. I'll get that part resolved later. So at any rate... everything goes will until I install the 10.6.8 Combo update.... upon the next boot my screen(s) get garbled during boot and I never do get to see the desktop. I can however reboot with the -x flag and get to the desktop, but no idea where to go from there. I've reloaded about 12 times in the last two days and tried every thing that I can think of based on what I've read, but just can't get this to work.

I did just see something that I haven't tried- booting into single user mode and removing all the ATI* kexts from /S/L/E and repairing permission and rebooting. I'm guessing that will have me back up and running with the same generic drivers I have after the fresh 10.6.3 install correct?

Ugh... I've read so many different things to get this to work (a LOT of which I just don't understand) I think I have myself confused. If any of you guru's can explain to me if/how to get this darned card to work under 10.6.8 I would be soooo stoked! And please don't flame me.. I'm just trying to learn to do this stuff with OS X, but I've been in the IT industry for 10+ years....

Thanks in advance to ANYONE that can help me out (if possible).

Jeff

Ok.. I stand corrected. I CANNOT get the system to boot with the -x switch.... it fails as well. I also just tried the Single User mode boot in order to try to delete all the ATI*.kext files, but was unable to do that because the system told me that they were all read only, and for the life of me I can't figure out how to change that.

If I try a verbose boot the last two lines (and this is off the top of my head and isn't exact, but close) are something along the lines about:

loading /extra/dsdt.aml

PciRoot=1 or something along those lines.

Does that make sense to anyone- advice? I'm pulling my hair out here :-(

Glad to see I'm not the only one with this issue. I have also tried this card with Lion DP4 and Lion GM but the same artifacts and such appear upon bootup. It works fine on 10.6.7 and as soon as I updated to 10.6.8, it breaks. I've tried rolling back to the 10.6.7 kexts but get a kernel panic. Someone please provide us with some guidance.
