I just updated to 10.6.8 after running several version of 10.6 without any hiccups on my Cartri BIOS EP45-UD3P. I think I have gotten complacent and have forgotten what owning a hackintosh was like prior to running this BIOS. However, it looks like 10.6.8 is a ramp up towards Lion, and I should start thinking about how I am going to run this.

After the update I lost sound. Luckily the Cartri downloads page pointed me to this 10.7 899a driver:

I also lost QE and CI support with my video card (9800GTX+). I downloaded the Fermi update from NVIDIA and installed the Apple80211Monitor.bundle (airport was not working) from 10.6.7 and it came back. Not sure which did it, but I will assume it is the NVIDIA driver. I found that info here for those who are curious:

I am back up and running which is awesome. However, now that I have had to modify the S/L/E folder and a couple extensions (mostly audio), I know I am going to have to do this again when I install the next update. I will also have to do this with 10.7 and all of the Lion updates.

I guess what I am looking for is ways of avoiding making changes to my S/L/E files so that updates can happen straight from the system updates menu with minimal hassle. Or am I asking for the impossible? Any suggestions?
