exscape
I noticed a slowdown in my OSX installation this morning, so I popped open activity monitor. A process named "update" (owned by root) is responsible for eating all the power. From "man update": The update command helps protect the integrity of disk volumes by flushing volatile cached filesystem data to disk at thirty second intervals. Doesn't sound like a process you'd like to mess with too much. So, instead of killing it, anyone have suggestions? It's been running for more than an hour straight now, and it's still there after a reboot. It didn't start hogging the CPU right after the reboot though, but a while later. Anyone got a clue? Deviant0ne
I would try killing it and see what happens. At first thought it sounded like it had something to do with software update, but I guess not...?
