Oh hey guys - I'm gonna need some help on this one.

I've been trying to get 10.6 running on my computer for a little over a year now - on and off. I'm not really trying to because I need a "Mac" for college. Regardless of reasons, however...

I'm using an AMD Phenom x4 945, an ASRock M3A770 Motherboard, and a XFX Radeon HD 5770 1 GB (I've heard bad stuff about this card. ><)

I did a fair amount of research, and after trial and error - the only 10.6 installation that actually worked with my computer was using a retail 10.6.3 Mac Box disk, and the Empire EFI for AMD bootloader. And - it worked fine - installation proceeded without a hitch, I booted into 10.6 with no problems at all.

Then - I tried updating with a combo update, and that's where things went downhill.

If I try using Chameleon RC5 on the boot volume, it either hangs on the Apple screen logo, or if I go into verbose mode - the screen blacks out after a second or two.

I can try booting off the Empire EFI disc, and I see that FakeSMC seems to be having an error (with the hex "0xblahblah" error) - but then otherwise it just hangs when it's identifying what volumes are on my computer (Listing all of the hard drives connected, and then just stopping there.) If I try booting in safe mode, it hangs as well - I just don't remember the exact place - something about a sleep kext that will be unloaded.

I know I need to be installing kexts or patching my DSDT, but I don't know which ones to use. Which is quite frustrating - considering I'm normally very good with these things. So - my question is this:

I want to upgrade from 10.6.3 to 10.6.6 (or 10.6.7, whichever is easier). How do I make it:

A) Not crash after updating.

B) Have a screen resolution higher than 1024x768 (Hardware Acceleration is preferred, of course)

C) have sound actually work. (I'll be using DAW's like Pro Tools, so sound is required.)

So.... can anyone help me?

EDIT: And I should also probably add: Computer-knowledge-wise, I'm above average. However - I don't fully understand DSDT (hardly, actually.), Kext installation, etc. I've tried Googling them - but results have been, for the most part, unhelpful.
