mrfof
Hi all. I've managed to get a fully functional retail snow leopard installed on my pc but the only way I can boot into it is with ##### Legacy! After several attempts and various methods the closest I have come to booting from the hard drive is a flash of the chameleon boot screen and then the system re-boots in a loop! The method I have used to get this far is ##### Legacy, retail Snow Leopard 10.6.3. Everything installs great and everything works fine apart from audio. I then extract dsdt using dsdt auto patcher and choose userdsdt and system utilities in ##### after the combo update. Everything works fine including audio after installing #####, however I can not boot from hard drive, only ##### Leagcy! I then tried installing Chameleon bootloader RC3 PCEFI 10.5, which loaded up but then every time I choose my snow leopard drive, the screen flashes and the computer re-boots in a loop. After much reading, I gather that my problem is something to do with the cmos re-setting upon boot thus giving me a boot loop with whatever loader I use not including ##### Legacy. This is a bit beyond my expertise now and could really do with some help/guidance! Any help/comments welcome. Thanks. ifrit05
Did you install a hacked kernel? Pentium D's can't use the retail Vanilla kernel by default. (there are ways around this though). mrfof
Many thanks for the reply. The only thing I have installed are ##### with userdsdt and system utilities and the mac update. Other than that I haven't installed anything. I feel a bit stuck because once I get this far, everything I try afterwards ends up with the same boot loop or a kernel panic! Regards, MRFOF. ifrit05
Next time you can get into your system download a legacy_kernel .I use nawcoms on a Pentium 4 630. Pentium D's are the exact same thing, but 2 P4 cores. I've just had a look at this post: http://blog.nawcom.com/?p=467 Do you think this could be worth trying? ifrit05
Are you still on 10.6.3? If so, you might want to find legacy_kernel 10.3.0. Can you still boot into your system using the BootCD? mrfof
I re-installed Snow Leopard last night and left it alone so it's completely vanilla running 10.6.3. I can boot into the system fine with ##### legacy and everything works great apart from audio. I have got the legacy kernel but I'm not sure what order to do things in next. I'm thinking update it but don't re-boot, install ##### then the legacy kernel and see what happens. What do you think? Many thanks. EDIT: I went ahead and gave it a go. Here's what I did: Booted Snow Leopard using ##### Legacy Extracted User DSDT using DSDT Autopatcher Updated to Snow Leopard 10.6.5 but didn't re-boot Ran ##### with UserDSDT and System Utilities selected Restarted the system and booted with ##### Legacy again Installed Legacy Kernel 10.6.5 with Legacy Kernel and Force 64 bit selected Then restarted and alas I can boot directly from my hard drive!! I can now finally start using my system without ##### Legacy. I still don't have audio and the graphics are a little dainty but I'm sure I can get around that. Many many thanks and much appreciation to ifrit05 for their help and thanks to the users that keep this forum running. Happy days!!
