Hi,

I've been connecting to my router via ethernet on my hackintosh (specs in signature) since I built it, and since my router is downstairs, the hackintosh is upstairs and there is no way to easily hide the ethernet cable, it's been a safety hazard down the stairs!

I decided to go wireless with the system, so I bought a cheap USB Wi-Fi dongle (RaLink RT2070) and I've managed to set it up and it all works with my system. However, I've noticed a significant decrease in speed when using the dongle (from around 8MB/s to just over 1MB/s). Of course I know that ethernet will provide me with a faster connection, but even on my hackintosh laptop and my WiFi PC I'm not experiencing any speed loss at all.

Is there anything I can do? The dongle was very cheap (£4.27 / $7) so I'm assuming that's why it's not very good. Can anyone recommend me a new dongle that will work with my system and will offer a better connection speed?

Many thanks,

Joseph

Please note: there is no way I can move the router upstairs and connect via ethernet. I'm looking for a wireless solution only.
