Had a 10.5.7 install running on :

Intel Q9550

EP45-UD3P

ATI HD4870

Everything worked great.

Trying to update to 10.6.3 . Tried a few retail disk methods, but all panicked before getting to install screen.

iAtkos S3 V2 10.6.3 worked straight away with:

Default options plus:

AHCI Sata

Intel SATA

Jmicron Sata

ATI48xx

Evo Enabler

LAN OOB with no kexts added

Sound controller is:

ALC889a

Audio though, doesn't work with Voodoo and LegacyHDA. I get a Speaker icon in top right, and can change volume etc. In SOUND I have a few output options , but no sound comes out.

System info says inbuilt audio has no devices.

:D

My question is though, Im using Kext Utility to try and install kexts, and whatever I install, I get a panic on reboot. Even just trying to update voodooHDA to later version results in a panic.

To install Im dragging the kext onto the icon , getting a password prompt, says install success and then repairs permissions etc.

Any ideas , ideally on how to get audio, but if not then why I get a panic from just updating a kext?

Thanks
