Hello :( I've been trying various things to get QE/CI support for my Saphire Radeon HD4550. It looks to be possible, but I haven't actually found a tutorial.

My system specs;

ASUS M4A78T-E

AMD Phenom II X3 720 @ 2.81GHz (default clock)

6GB 1600 RAM

Saphire Radeon HD 4550 512MB

Drives in AHCI (only way to get boot device)

So far I have tried SnowLeo 10.6.0 with PC EFI 10.5 and 10.6 with Evo Enabler and ATY_Init with no luck. I get a garbled screen after booting in normal mode, if I boot into safe mode it works but the card will not be properly detected ie it appears as "GPU" in System Profiler. I've tried using each VGA, DVI, and HDMI port, and even combinations of each with no luck.

Display:

Type: GPU

Bus: PCIe

PCIe Lane Width: x8

VRAM (Total): 256 MB

Vendor: ATI (0x1002)

Device ID: 0x954f

Revision ID: 0x0000

Kernel Extension Info: No Kext Loaded

Displays:

Display:

Resolution: 1024 x 768

Pixel Depth: 32-Bit Color (ARGB8888)

Main Display: Yes

Mirror: Off

Online: Yes

Recently I have installed iATKos S3 V2 (OS X 10.6.3) with much success using PC EFI 10.6 (with GraphicsEnabler) and EvoEnabler but still get no GPU support. Garbled screen after boot, no native resolution in safe mode, or any QE/CI support. Though this time my card appears as an "HD4300 Series" but has the same vendor ID 0x1002 (obviously) and device ID 0x954f. In Windows it also appears as "HD4300/4500 Series".

I tried adding an EFI string to com.apple.boot.plist via ioreg, gfxutils, and EFI Studio. That gives me a black screen on boot. I've also tried patching EvoEnabler via this post, it doesn't seem to help any.

So now I'm wondering what else I should do? Currently I'm trying to update to 10.6.4 and apply the graphics patch to use this beta bootloader.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

EDIT:

Wanted to update that with the kexts from here I can boot in normal mode (64bit, no flags) and the card appears as a 4890 in System Profiler, with the correct device ID: 0x954f.

Regards,

Das
