I have 2 sata hard drives, a 1TB for windows 7, and a 200gb that I want to install Snow Leopard and Ubuntu on.

My DVD drive is IDE.

I am trying to install Snow Leopard from a retail DVD. The problem is that I can't get the installer to detect the hard drive. I know the problem is to do with my motherboard (With ICH7/R 82801GB) not supporting AHCI.

I spent many hours googling and decided that I needed to modify the installer, but I only have a 4GB Flash drive. So I found an old 20GB IDE Hard drive laying around, created 2 partitions on it, then installed Snow Leopard to the second partition, booted into Snow Leopard, used Disk Util to "Restore" the OS X DVD to the first partition, and finally installed Chameleon (myHack 1.0) to the first partition.

Now I had a modifiable installer to play around with. myHack is said to have a fixed IOATAFamily.kext that can detect sata for all ICHx chipsets, but it didn't work. I spent many more hours googling, trying many other so called fixes but none of them could detect any of my sata hard drives.

I managed to install OS X on the sata hard drive using a VirtualBox with raw access.

But then I would always get the "Still waiting for boot device" problem.

I know it must be possible as many people have had great success with this motherboard.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
