Will Ryan
I'm following this guide http://osxx86.orgfree.com/installguide.htm and I'm stuck on step 13. I type that code in, with harddisk0, and partition2 (don't know if the partition2 is right, but I've tried partition1 too), and right when I hit enter, i get the little intro thing for DD, like the developer and stuff, then immediately the screen comes up that says it's experienced a problem and needs to close. I've tried many many times, redownloaded DD, but it still doesnt work! What am I doing wrong? Please if you know anything relevant to this, please respond. I'm so close to getting it I can taste it! mifki
Why are you sing that guide, its liek 1 year old, its already iirevlevant (well it still works), just download a instll image not the tiger-x86.bz2 file 9or wateva it is called) and install it that way. Also if your gonna do it that way, at leastKNOW the paramters to use P.S: That site should be burned to the ground its soo bad. Will Ryan
Ok, what guide do you suggest? And if it involves burning an image to a DVD, that's out of the question because I don't have a burner. mifki
look in the genius bar at the vmware installtion guide, it allows you to install os x without a dvd burner (through a virtual machine), also the Search funtion is very very useful. *Hint**Hint* Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/25714-dd-installation-error/#findComment-174021 Share on other sites
Will Ryan
I tried searching, but I can only find ones that use a DVD image. What's an easy guide that doesn't require that? mifki
none 0.o, if you want to be able to upgrade your OS X you must get a DVD imgae, if you want to be stuck with 10.4.1 garbage then make sure you get your parameters right for dd.exe and then follow the guide. I highly recommend gettign a install dvd not a Harddisc image Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/25714-dd-installation-error/#findComment-174035 Share on other sites
Will Ryan
Ok, i'll see what I can get. Can I just follow the DVD guide on that same site? or do you know a better one? And can I use the same osx86 file? Or do I need an .iso one or something? mifki
Delete that site form your favourties, History adn everywhere in you rmind. everything you need is on this site. Spend some time and get used to the layout (where thigns are etc etc) of this site and u'll be as right as rain. Also the "OSx86" ou have is a disk image, meaning its a image of soemones elses installation. You will have to get a another install disc, i can tell you where it is but not exactly, for instance i have heard taht peopel are able to download a torrent form the pirate bay or demonoid, they just search for Jas or Goatsecx, but most just search for Jas 10.4.6 and they find something *hint**hint* Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/25714-dd-installation-error/#findComment-174042 Share on other sites
asap18
yup kiko is right, most apps dont work in 10.4.1 anymore. To briefly explain the vmware to native way u downloas the install dvd iso. Mount it as a virtual dvd drive in daemon tools. Point vmware to boot off that. And make vmware use a real partition to install too. Ive done it before and it is very easy. Will Ryan
Ok, I'm getting a 10.4.6 Jas image, so hopefully that works. So far, this seems to be the best guide I can find. http://www.profit42.com/index.php/2006/05/...ndows-computer/ There are some parts that I don't know what to do, so if there's a better one, please post. And I'm wondering, i already did the 6.5 gig partition, so I won't have to do that again, and did this step "create partition primary id=af" but i think before or after id i had a number, like 6660, do i not do anything or just enter "create partition primary id=af?" And for the boot disk, just use a floppy? Sorry for being so stupid with this stuff, I wish there was like a super noob guide hahaha. mifki
ZOMGWTF, man i have told you, screw the other sites, there is no other site but this one. GO TO THE GENIUS BAR AND READ THE TUTORIALS THERE, THEY ARENT EVEN TUTORIALS THEY ARE GUIDES AND IT IS SOOOO SIMPLE TO INSTALL, all that partiton type=af is all {censored}, just make a parttion on your disck, format it as FAT32, then point VMware to use it as a disk, then once the installer loads up just click erase and it will convert the FAT32 disc into a HFS partiton. <FULLSTOP> Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/25714-dd-installation-error/#findComment-174139 Share on other sites
Will Ryan
Ok, I think I got it. So for the partition, the type I made before is NTFS, so I should change it to FAT32? mifki
yeah, fat32 then u can erase it in vmware (witht he os x disk utility) and install form there, hey just to let you know, your partiton size sdoesnt have to be 6gb it can any size you want as long as it is >4 gb Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/25714-dd-installation-error/#findComment-174509 Share on other sites
