Booting into 64-bit mode automatically

For some reason I can't get 10.6.7 to boot into the 64-bit mode automatically on my Lenovo W510

By default it has always booted into 32- bit.

I am able to boot into 64-bit mode by using "arch=x86_64" on the boot line. Unfortunately my keyboard and mouse drivers were obviously not 64-bit so I have since installed some drivers for them. Annoyingly they appear to be 64-bit only as now when I boot into 32-bit i need to ignore the cache otherwise it crashes.

If I now boot as normal it also kernel panics (grey reboot your machine screen) i.e. what I get when I don't ignore the cache in 32-bit mode.

Any idea why mine is not booting in 64-bit by default??

My com.apple.Boot.plist contains

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">

<plist version="1.0">

<dict>

<key>Kernel Architecture</key>

<string>x86_64</string>

<key>Kernel Flags</key>

<string>arch=x86_64</string>

</dict>

</plist>
