uk2010
MSI 975X Platinum works perfect with core2duo 6300 paired with a X1600 Pro. Sound, Network both work http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?...N82E16813130051 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/25691-conroe-motherboard/#findComment-173820 Share on other sites
zedzed
The MSI does not get great reviews on the overclocking of the Conroe MSI 975X Platinum by Matthew Wade MSI has two different 975X motherboards on the market. The 975X Platinum is the older of the two, in that unlike its newer counterpart it lacks support for Intel’s Core 2 Duo processors. The motherboard does however boast support for every other LGA775-based CPU released by Intel to date. Its 975X chipset also offers support for multiGPU technology in the form of ATi’s Crossfire. http://www.itp.net/reviews/details.php?id=2906&category= Make sure you get the V2 version http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.....2&class=mb CONCLUSION The MSI 975X Platinum is a good motherboard, with a good spread of overclocking options, a neatly structured design and comprehensive features. It also isn't too far above the £150 mark. All this would make the MSI a great buy, if it were the only high-end Intel motherboard in the world. As it is, though, both the Asus and the Gigabyte beat it hands down for speed, and the Gigabyte also has superior on-board sound. If you just want CrossFire support, then ATi chipset-based boards such as the ECS PA1 MVP Extreme and Sapphire PURE CrossFire II are substantially cheaper. Without the all-out performance of a top motherboard, or the economy of a mid-range model, sadly, the MSI finds itself without a distinctive niche. http://www.custompc.co.uk/custompc/reviews...x-platinum.html http://www.hardwarezone.com/articles/view....;cid=6&pg=9 Better reviews go to Gigabyte GA-GI975X ASUS P5WD2-E Premium Asus P5 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/25691-conroe-motherboard/#findComment-178269 Share on other sites

Conroe Mac
The Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 is now up and running. It is 965 chipset/ICH8. Refer to the thread in the hardware section for more info. It's about $100 cheaper than the Badaxe and is a great overclocker.
