CheesyJedi
Ok, so I finally got Snow Leopard installed on my HDD under a GUID partition scheme. Got it booting with Chameleon 2.0-RC5, working dsdt, and select kexts. Now I want to potentially ruin all my hard work by installing Windows 7 on the same HDD! When I installed Snow Leopard I created a FAT partition for the purpose of installing windows. Now I have read it's possible to install Windows 7 on a GUID HDD, but what I want to know is what to expect when it installs: Will it overwrite Chameleon with it's own bootloader? If so is it easy to get Chameleon back? Etc. I'd appreciate replies before I go and f everything up on my own Thanks! srs5694
I just posted a rather lengthy message about this here, so please refer to it. Note that Windows will install to a GPT disk only on a UEFI-based system or if it has a hybrid MBR. Basically YES Windows will mess up your OSX bootloader..but thats fine because you can repair that after you have installed Windows. WIndows sets up its own bootloader in its own little MBR partition so it doesn't overwrite the OSX one but it does take priority until you reinstall the OSX one. I have just finished setting up my first proper dual boot (off same hard drive) of OSX and Win7. Its actually not that hard (with some guidance), its just doing things in the right order and I also had problems with getting the Windows installation dvd detected on reboot. BTW I used ##### Legacy (burn to a cd) to be able to get back into OSX after the WIndows installation then reinstall the bootloader (Chimera or Chameleon or whatever). Then you have a proper dual boot system from the OSX bootloader screen. If you need a full guide look here.
