After using this guide..http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=233235, I am able to have a working 10.5.6. Now when i try to upgrade it using either combo fix, Ideneb upgrade kit, I always get the waiting for root device. Im kinda lost now as what to do to fix it. Tried the carpet bomb method I saw on here same result.

The laptop is old so im not even trying to install 10.6.x on it, well thats a lie..I cant manage to get 10.6 even wanting to install so I think my best bet is trying to upgrade to .10.5.8.

If anyone can point me in the right direction I would be grateful. I read that waiting for root device was something to do with sata drivers not being loaded, but as this laptop has na IDE drive, im kinda clueless.

Again, any help appreciated

Any advice appreciated people

A quick and dirty trial is this: install your update to iDeneb 10.5.8. Then boot the iPC 10.5.6 and UNSELECT everything except:

iPC OSx86 10.5.6 Intel AMD SSE2 SSE3 -> Drivers -> Chipset Drivers -> Intel ICHx IDE/SATA Drivers

Install that and see whether that gets you further along.

Edit: after updating to 10.5.8, you might also need to type "voodoo" at the boot prompt to use the correct kernel.

ok seems im on my own here. Can I just ask a coupkle of questions and hope they get answered. One is am I wasting my time trying to install the update or SHOULD it work with the right method, and 2. Am I better just trying to get Snow Leopard to install and boot? An older laptop but could it run it?

Again, hoping someone takes the time.

Got this working perfect now...on WINDOWS XP!!! Tries and tried but kept getting "waiting for root device error" Reason I wanted tyhis so much was my son used a mac at school so wanted to try and get him used to it without spending the £££ on a mac. Will do more reading but for the moment ive spent too long installing and trying things out.

Thanks to the 1 person who tried to help,seriously thanks.
