So you can't access your shared windows drive from Mac OS X? Normally shared windows drives show up under the 'Network' tab in Mac OS X automatically. If you can't see any of your computers from there try this:

1. Click anywhere on your desktop.

2. On the top bar click Go > Connect to Server

3. Under 'Server Address' type smb://servername (server name being the name or IP your windows xp machine)

4. An authentication window will pop up. Enter your password (if you have one).

5. Select the shared volume you want to map, and select OK. The shared volume should now be on your desktop.

Note: If you want to unmount the shared volume, just drag it to the trash.

If this doesn't work, you most likely have a firewall issue. Turn off all software firewalls on your XP machine and make sure Windows Firewall is disabled.

Let me know if this helps.

edit:

Forgot to answer your other question. To uninstall programs you go to your Applications folder (or wherever they are installed) and drag them to the trash. Pretty simple.

Oops... I gave directions, but didnt read all the posts above.... Already answered.... If you still cant get it to work, you may have to log in, which is done by clicking the Authenticate Again button when viewing the list of shares.

cheers,

Keith

Kday, I've tried it from my machine here to my XP SP2 machine. It dislikes it and refuses to see the shares.

If you have suggestions, I'm wide open to them, especially since this can see my G4 and G3 servers at my office which run 9.2 (Appleshare IP 6.3) and 8.6 (Appleshare IP 5) respectively.

Stupid question, but are you sure you type smb://IPADDRESS

If you just try the ip address, it tries to access it through mac shares (explaining why you can see Appleshares).

The smb tells it to access windows samba shares (what you want for XP)

That works! Thanks very much.
