Dell Inspiron 560 MT booting, not loading

Hi all,

 

It has been a while since I have installed OS X on anything. I just picked up a Dell Inspiron 560 MT from walmart the other day and finaly decided to try OS X on it. It boots up into an install disk no problem. I format either mbr or guid, doesnt matter for this problem. After install the boot load comes up then goes to a gray apple screen and the Hard drive doesnt budge an inch, no round turning indicator under the upple either.

 

I rebooted and tried -v -x and from the boot loader it started to display all the info as normal, then quickly it loads the drivers and acts like it is going to boot the system then goes to a black screen and loads nothing. It is acting like the boot loader is working fine, but then the Hard drive just isnt picking up where the boot load left off.

 

I have installed as basic as I can, to trying to customizing to my hardware. I have tried different chip sets and drivers as well, just havent found the right combo I guess.

 

I have used iAtkos S3, Hazard 10.6.6i, and tried a vanilla install. Still they all boot to an apple logo and stop. The Hard drive never starts up it seems to try and load the system. Is there a driver or setting that I am missing that should initiat the Hard drive to start loading once the bootloader is done?

 

I would take a screen shot of the boot loader info, but it goes thru it so fast that I dont even have time to do so. It never pauses, just zooms thru its loading proccess and goes straight to the apple screen, or with -x -v straight to a black screen.

 

Any help is appreciated. If you need some more info about the system, when I get home I can look into it more and post it for you.

I have the same machine, minus a few specs. I have the Pentium Dual-Core and a Realtek ethernet controller. Beyond that the rest is pretty much the same. What I had to do is use a Nawcom boot disk and install. Once I booted up for the first time I had to make a DSDT. I would provide mine but seeing how we don't quite have the same hardware it would be a bad idea. The DSDT fixed the occasional kernel panics I was getting. Making a LegacyLPC.kext and putting it in my /Extra/Extensions folder fixed my USB issues. I still have random shutdown problems but for the most part my computer works pretty well. If there is any way I can help let me know.

Hmm... What processor do you have? Usually when running on i3, i5 or i7 you come across something very similar, as far as I know the Dell Inspiron 560 doesn't run these processors, but it doesn't hurt to try this:

 

busratio=20 -v -x

 

or busratio=17

 

or just switch up the numbers, I was getting this same problem on my i3 and I got it working with that

I have the Pentium Dual Core E5800 running at 3.2Ghz. What it does occasionally upon shutdown is that it will exit the Operating System but the fans will keep running and the power button will turn orange.

 

Oh, probably a dumb question but the busratio is the number of multipliers the CPU has right? I will give it a shot and see if this resolves my problems.

 

Edit: I gave it a shot but it didn't change anything. I did some further research and found that my CPU wouldn't need to have the busratio entered in. I think it may be something that needs entered into the DSDT that I may of missed or a kernel extension that is not loading. I don't know though. It is hard to say what it could be.
