So I hosed my system trying to get a 6850 to work. I have no idea what is going on with it...

So no problem, right?

1. Try and reinstall with the new #####+##### setup.

No go, couldn't get anything past the disc selection screen even setting the uid and -x flags.

2. Tried ##### Legacy. Sort of worked until the disc selection screen but then the screen would go black and the video card fan would spin up to max and nothing else would happen.

3. So finally decided to go back to the lifehacker install method, creating a USB boot image. Another problem - I no longer have a computer to create the USB stick on. My wife's mac, which used to be open, has been locked down by her work so she doesn't have admin access. No admin access means I can't do very much with Disk Utility.

So I am completely stuck.

Anyone have any ideas? I just want to get my system up and running and I've hit a wall.

Further updates... This is looking like a working log, but maybe it will help someone else. Okay, I got ##### Legacy to get to the Install Disc, but I end up with a circle/slash error.

I've set AHCI in the Bios under "Integrated Peripherals > Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode" which seemed to be the only problem I could find using search that could lead to that error.

Currently I took out the Radeon 6850 and am using a 9500GT card.

So the system currently looks like this:

UD3P

Q9550

9500GT

4GB RAM

Intel 320 SSD

Lite-On DVD

1. Booting verbose, I get to:

Darwin Kernel Version: 10.6.0: Sun Jan 9...; legacy kernel v6 :xnu-...
System model name: MacPro3,1

System uptime in nanoseconds: 689554811

2. Booting single user, I get:

Waiting for window server before finishing bluetooth setup
RealtekRTL81xxx.kext: NIC identified as RTL8168C/8111C (mcfg=14)
RealtekRTL81xxx.kext: NIC identified as RTL8168C/8111C (mcfg=14)
Still waiting for root device

3. Booting "PCIRootUID=1":

Circle-Slash error on the Apple logo screen.

This is a brand-spanking new SL install disc. Going to search for another boot disc to try out. I can't make one since I don't have admin access to my wife's work mac...

Tried the above with the regular ##### disc. Not sure why I started with the Legacy one.

The single user mode got one more line in and still froze.

The PCIRootUID=1 got circle slash.

So no love there.
