Mymlan
Hey guys, first I want to say THANK YOU to this forum for being such a big help. I absolutely could not have gotten even as far as I have without such a helpful community. So, I've been futzing around with my SL install today, and it's gone more or less smoothly but definitely not without hiccups. And right now, I'm stuck. Here's what I've done so far. I have been following this guide. Initially, I had trouble booting to my Mac OS X installer via Chameleon, but I was able to boot to disc and install SL after a bit of Googling revealed these parameters: -x -v legacy GraphicsEnabler=no cpus=2 busratio=27 PCIRootUID=1 from a thread on another forum. I was able to get into my installer, format my disk, and install SL. At that point, I wasn't able to boot into the SL install unless I kept using those launch parameters, which isn't ideal as it is "safe mode". In either case, I got in, downloaded/installed the 10.6.7 update, ran ##### on ##### mode and also checked off every other item that seemed relevant. At shut down, the system patch window said that it had completed successfully. Now, I can't get into my SL install. Here's where I'm stuck. If I boot with the above parameters, the verbose output always seems to get stuck onF718x: Fintek: Found unsupported chip ID=0xa5 REVISION=0x13 and freezes. Is my video card causing this? If I boot normally through Chameleon without any parameters, I see the gray Apple EFI-screen, and the loading thing goes for a little while, and then it kernel panics. If I boot normally using -v for verbose output, I can see that the system always seems to hang on HDAEnabler: 05/05/2008 Added SP-Audio support , which sometimes ends in "...support b". Could you think of anything I could do at this point? Here's where my conventional logic breaks down. I've read that my GPU is likely the source of this problem. I have an MSI Radeon R6870 Twin Frozr II. I thought it would be fine, since the 10.6.7 update supposedly brought native support for the 6xxx cards, including the 6870? Others have reported it working as well (see http://netkas.org/?p=679). Is this how it must be done if I have a GPU installed that is only supported through a latter patch and kext install (which is the case for me), or is this because the R6870 Twin Frozr II uses a non-reference cooler and thus a different firmware? This is all a little overwhelming, I could very easily be misunderstanding something Or, if anybody could suggest an alternative method to installing SL that would be easier for my GPU, I would really appreciate it! Thanks in advance! edit: there's some talk in the comments in that thread about using the 10.6.6 kexts. Maybe I can install those through #####, my bootloader, somehow, and it might work then..?
