I've successfully install os x, both by the iDeneb distro and by using just the retail disk and nawcom ModCD through virtual box. In fact i've had almost perfect installs in virtual box. Sound works, internet works, all my peripherals work without a hitch. So i thought i would have no trouble installing os x on a partition that i can boot to. This thought was wrong. I used nawcom's ModCD and the snow leopard retail cd i used to install on virtual box. I boot the ModCD fine but as soon as i try to boot up the retail disk i get a kernal panic. I've tried it with the legacy kernal and the modbin kernal all with no luck. i tried adding cpus=1 to the boot, still no luck. Is there a kernal that would work? or something i could use?

My computer specs are as follows:

Model: HP Pavillion p6270z

Processor: AMD Athlon II x4 2.6 ghz busratio of 13

RAM: 4gb ddr3

Video Card: nVidia GeForce GT 430 1gb ddr3

Mobo: FoxConn Aloe

BIOS:American Megatrends Inc Version 5.05

DOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

While following another tutorial to try installing ideneb first then upgrading to snow leopard I was informed to change my Sata drive to ahci in the bios. So far the system seems to be booting into the installer. I will be back if I run into any more issues

Also for those experiencing any similar problems the tags I used during boot were -v maxmem=2048 busratio=13 -x

Well now that I've got it up and running I am having trouble being able to boot from the hard drive. I have to boot from the nawcom modcd for it to work correctly.

I also cannot update to 10.6.7 without loosing USB capability.

My resolution of 1080p is also not supported but I'm sure once I figure out the update I can install a kext i found for my graphics card.

I you haven't already install chameleon to your hard drive ( there are two pkg installers on my guide). If you still can't boot from the hard drive find out what kexts are being loaded from the nawcom mod cd (kextstat | grep -v com.apple in terminal will tell you) Then install them to Extra/Extensions on HD

USB -First update the kernel to 10.6.7 Legacy kernel, If that does not fix the USB problem there are plenty of USB rollback solutions on the forum as it is a common problem (just search)

And before you install a kext for you Video try

<key>GraphicsEnabler</key>
<string>y</string>

in the com.apple.Boot.plist in the extra folder.

Well I've got my graphics card to work fully using this guide

http://www.kexts.com/video-graphics/9255-g...5-10-6-6-a.html

Now I will check out what you said about booting from the hard drive

As for the USB problem I found http://www.tonymacx86.com/ amend his ##### helped fix it.

I am confused. First you say you have fixed the graphic & USB problems. Now you say you have a kernel panic. What kexts did you try to install? What does the kernel panic say when booted (-v) verbose. Photo would be good, posted straight to the forum, not to some third party site.

Really good that you searched and found solutions. personally I would have researched as many solutions as i could find (And you may have done that) Did you try the suggestions i gave you? For video it was to change com.apple.Boot.pllist and for USB to upgrade your kernel. Trying those suggestion would have entailed installing no extra kexts and MAY have fixed the problems.

Anyway post the photo.

Here is what I have done

I installed osx from the retail disk with the help of nawcom mod cd

I updated to osx 10.6.7

I used ##### to revert the USB kext and also used this to disable Apple intel CPU power management

Then I installed sleep enabled kext

Installed nvidia drivers from Tony mac's nvidia update

Installed natit kext

I now, instead of booting from the mod cd, boot from the empire efi 4 amd cd. This is the predecessor to mod cd. I do this because it gives me better support for my graphics, meaning I get transparency on the menu bar. Pretty much the computer works flawlessly at this point, I simply have to boot from the cd not the hard drive.

You informed me to try that terminal command which I did, listed from that were kexts I could not locate from installed files or from the kexts on the empire efi cd. I copied the ones I could find leaving the ones that were already in extensions folder.

attached you will find the kernel panic i get when booting from the harddrive, the terminal results, and my extra/extensions folder

Well after looking up how to dual boot windows7 and osx found easy bcd uses an iso as a boot manager for osx so I used the empire efi iso as the boot manager and I can now freely boot either os

Thank you dellmantt for all your help. Sorry I left some of my steps out. But without your help I'd still be struggling.
