I've messed up with my hackintosh and i tried to install it again but couldn't fix the drivers.

Yesterday, i realized i don't need to install the system again! I have to use Time Machine to restore my system and everything will be just like before the accident happened! Cool right? (i am not a noob but i didn't know that :P )

Now here's the problem.

Before restoring system, i erased the Macintosh HD and then i set the partition Active from the terminal so i won't get the message boot0 error. Then i restored my system.

I've tried to boot but i got the boot0 error! Why? I've set my partition active! So what's wrong? I did the same process another time (the same process but selected another Date for restore) but i got again the same error.....

What do you guys think?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My computer is a HP Pavillion DV5 with Intel Core 2 Duo and Nvidia Geforce...... (all of this work except my wifi because there are no kexts for it)

It does that when it cannot find boot1h on the active partition

To fix, 2 choices:

1) You can use another OS -- bootable Linux CD works -- to boot system. Then use dd to copy boot1h (you may have to download it again) to the partition's bootsector or

2) Use a tool like Parted or Partition Magic to restore active to the partition that was active before.

yes could you explain a bit more please cause i don't know that much with computers

hey devout, i cannot reply back to your pm because the website says i cannot send any more PM's Today!

I think you're going to have to follow wmarsh's comment, and install a bootable linux distribution, and edit the files on the drive from there. I have no idea how to do that, so I'm a little unexperienced to help you there.

how can i do that?

Btw wait! the system i install is restored from a time machine backup! How can i make changes on there? because i can install Mac OS X without restore but the graphics card doesn't work!(Before it did)And that's why i try to restore the data! So how can i reinstall the bootloader in the HDD by editing Time Machine?

I don't use time machine so I'm not sure :D

thanks for your help! -_- I'll check it out tomorrow and if i don't see any other choice i'll install from scratch and if i still have a problem i'll ask you about the linux allright? So wait for a PM in the next 1-3 days ok? Good Night (it's night in my country so bb) !

I don't know about linux either it's wmarsh that directed you to that option :) Install from scratch, and the first boot, you need to configure everything before restarting after installing the combo update. We could install the bootloader before restarting after combo update, but I'm not sure!

This link Part 3 - Install Chameleon Bootloader is from a tutorial and gives a decent explanation of how Chameleon works. But after reading it, for an actual manual install of Chameleon, this next link is clearer.

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=164809 One can make a partition active from the command line.

You can't follow those commands word for word, literally: from the terminal one types "diskutil list" without the quotes to find out where the files should go. Writing boot0 to the MBR will overwrite code that Windows has installed in the MBR. boot1h goes to the bootsector of the partition that Chameleon will be installed to. And "boot" will be installed under the root, which is /

Are you able to boot into OS X from an install cd or similar? Has TimeMachine restored your install so that it is fully functional except that SL can't be booted from the hard drive, so that you must use a boot cd, but that is the only problem?

As I understand it, “Restore System from Time Machine” in the Utilities menu on your Mac OS X install disc will work. If this restore doesn't include boot1h and boot then you probably have to reinstall all three files (+boot0). All the boot files are found in the i386 folder of

hxxp://chameleon.osx86.hu/file_download/39/Chameleon-2.0-RC4-r684-bin.tar.gz for instance.

Also, I think if you make a new SL partition install then part of the install process offers to migrate from other mac systems and I think that TimeMachine on another drive would qualify. I haven't tested such a migration from TimeMachine. So this would be an 'if all else fails' workaround. Remember you can start in safe mode, -x, which should load a generic graphics driver, from the boot screen or cd.

no i found a better solution.I'll install snow leopard on a small new partition just to fix the big one, and then erase the small partition ok? Now i'd like to know how do i re-install chameleon bootloader on the HDD

Do you mean my post didn't contain enough explanation?

well i found in a post here in insanely mac, that somebody, who had the same problem with me that used time machine, had to re-install chameleon.

So he said: Why do i get this error?

And somebody else said: When you use time machine to restore your system, you need to re-install the chameleon bootloader.

And he replied: Ok i've done it within my working Windows 7 Partition!

And i have Windows 7 too.So, does anybody here knows how to do it?

Thanks for all the support guys!
