Hi guys,

I have a Dell Insprion 6400, core duo ~1.8Ghz.

I could get it working perfect on 10.6.2 with QE/CI etc and that was fine. However I wanted to upgrade XCode and the iPhone SDK. The latest free version requires 10.6.4 installed.

When I went to upgrade, the laptop loaded up until the dekstop appears, and then instantly went black. Using VNC, I was able to connect in and confirm QE/CI was still working, but just the screen was black. Otherwise it was perfect.

While googling solutions for about 15 minutes, the laptop went into sleep. For whatever reason, this sleep resolved the issue! I then had 10.6.7 on my laptop with full graphics, sound etc etc. However, I then went into System Preferences, selected display and clicked Detect Displays. The screen went black again.

so, back to VNC. I set the Energy Saver settings to 1 minute for both screen and hard drive sleep, and left it 60 seconds. Sure enough, the screen came back on after the minute.

I've only tested this twice so I'm not sure how repeatable it is, but prefereably I'd like to be able to bypass this and just have a fix for GMA950 that works.

I've tried the kexts from kexts.com and they didnt work. I got the hanging grey screen and the twirling rainbow mouse icon. Or others just didnt work at all.

I also should point out that I always had the EFI string since 10.6.2 for GMA950. Maybe I should remove that and just use the kexts??

After updated to 10.6.7 today. My GMA950 can only display as 1024x768. Put the back up 950 related Kxet back, it does not help and now stuck to 1024x768 now. Any ideas to get it back to detect the display and using good resolutions.

Try a DSDT fix for GMA950, has worked through all my system software updates http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=223205 This is very easy to use and the patches you need (DTGP & GMA950 Desktop OR Laptop) are included. There is a link to a video tutorial a well

Cool. Gonna try that now.

To be honest, the laptop screen is f**ked on my Dell, hence why I've decided to convert it. I was planning on using TightVNC viewer from my Windows machine but its laggy as hell.

Gonna have to do iPhone dev directly on the laptop now, even with a big blank strip down the centre!!

I tried that fix, btw.

Now the only difference is that the mouse is laggy as hell, and the icons in the taskbar at the bottom are very jittery. Like when I click them, instead of bouncing smoothly, they jump all over the place!!
