hit F8 during bootup to enter boot options.

type "Graphics Mode"="1024x768x32"

and you get a desktop of 1024x768 at 32bit color

type "Graphics Mode"="800x600x32"

and you get a desktop of 800x600 at 32bit color

Certain combinations will not work.

i.e. "Graphics Mode"="1280x600x32"

will give you a desktop of 800x600 at 32bit color.

You can type ?video at the prompt instead, and it will list the acceptable resolutions.

If you want this change to be permament (survive rebooting the virtual machine), you need to edit your boot.plist file. Do a search on the board or google for "edit plist resolution" or something similar. the instructions you find says to COPY the file TO DESKTOP; edit it; COPY BACK TO ORIGINAL LOCATION, OVERWRITING ORIGINAL. make sure you actually follow those specific steps, or it won't work.

after you do those steps, DO NOT REBOOT. Open up Disk Utility from Applications->Utilities and "Fix Permissions"

You technically don't *have to* fix permissions, but just in case permissions aren't correct on the modified plist this will fix it.

Good luck! If you couldn't find an answer to this question on your own, you *really* need to start using Google and this board's search button!
