Right, this is my first post here, so bear with me as I may ask some silly questions

First things first, I installed the iAtkos S3 v2 distro of snow leopard 10.6.2 (updated to 10.6.6)

I should also stress that I use Mac OSX out of necessity, because iTunes Won't sync any iDevice whatsoever on my windows partition, it just always fails.

now the main reason of this post: what works and what doesn't:

Working:

- Multi-touch trackpad (surprising, since the multi-touch bit does not work on windows)

- Audio (works fine, although it only uses 3 of the 5 available speakers)

- Ethernet (works without issue)

- DVD Drive (reading and writing works fine)

Sort of working:

- Display drivers (NVinject kext, it displays the screen in the correct resolution (1920x1080) and shows the correct amount of VRAM in system profiler, it also lists my GPU, which is a Nvidia GeForce 9700M GT, as "unknown nvidia card" which renders me unable to play pretty much any game ever made)

Not Working:

- Wireless LAN (Intel Wifilink 5100AGN, I was aware of this before I installed Snow Leopard on my pc and I am thus perfectly fine with it not working)

- USB ports (these worked before upgrading from 10.6.2 to 10.6.6, and these are sort of critical for me because I need them to sync my iPad)

- Bluetooth (an USB dongle, so fixing the USB issue will also cause this to work again)

I already tried installing some kexts to fix some of the above issues, but when I unzip some of the kexts, they unzip as folders which I cannot install using osx86Tools. I'm also quite careful with what kexts I install and what settings I tinker with, because I want to avoid a kernel panic (and thus also a complete reinstall) at all costs. If anyone can help out with any of the above described issues, that would be greatfully appreciated.

Full list of PC specs:

Acer Aspire 8930G

- Intel Core2duo T6400 @2GHz CPU

- Nvidia Geforce 9700M GT with 512M GDDR3

- 4GB DDR3 RAM @800MHz

- 500GB Seagate HDD @5400rpm (windows partition)

- 500GB WD HDD @7200rpm (both windows and Snwo Leopard)

- Realtek HD Audio

- Pioneer Blu-Ray/DVD Combo drive

And that should be it, thanks in advance for helping out.

USB problem well known when upgrading to 10.6.5 - 10.6.6

http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&...mp;aql=&oq=

Kexts are folders, to fix that problem use "Cocktail". Under System/Databases use Restore default file associations.

Never use OSXTools on Snow Leopard. If you must use a tool use "Kext Utility" (never had a problem with it) or better still learn the Terminal commands for installing kexts and rebuilding kext cache etc.

So am I correct in understanding that have to reinstall everything and then apply the USB fix, or can I still do that now while 10.6.6 is already up and running?

You can do it while it is up and running. Just roll back the IOUSBFamily.kext and IOUSBMassStorage.kext to 10.6.4.

BTW are you using a patched kernel, if so you need to update the kernel. not the USB kexts.

While my earlier post was being approved, I tried it and the USB issue (and thus also the Bluetooth issue) was fixed.

All that remains now is to get my GPU up and running (Nvidia Geforce 9700M GT) and find a way to enable Quartz Extreme. I tried googling it, but google only eiter lists irrelevant stuff or OSX related stuff about the 9700M GTS (which is basically also useless to me).

My bootloader is Chameleon 2.0 RC5 if that can help you and I have NVInject.kext installed.

I tried looking for that but I was unable to find it. There is no System/Databases folder on my computer. I only have /library in the System folder.

Thanks for helping out once more.

Fine. Might I suggest that when 10.6.7 update comes out shortly that you hold off and see what problems others are having before installing.

If you use advanced search and add GTS to "But don't show pages that have...any of these unwanted words", that should narrow your search. eg http://www.google.com.au/search?q=geforce+...images&tbs= http://www.google.com.au/search?q=hackinto...images&tbs= http://www.google.com.au/search?q=osx86+ge...images&tbs=

"Cocktail" is not part Of an OS X install, you need to download it http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/10909/cocktail
