OK so I have been trying to get OSX 10.6 on my machine for a couple of months now.

In the beginning about a year ago I had Snow Leopard working with the following hardware

Gigabyte EP45-UD3LR

Intel Q6600

4GB DDR2 Ram

SATA HDD

SATA Pioneer DVD drive.

I cannot 100% remember how I got it installed, but I am quite sure, I restored the 10.6 retail DVD to an 8gb USB stick with the Kakewalk software. This was done on a Mac.

I know don’t own a Mac, and have no access to one so this time I have been trying to do it with only Windows 7 (64bit).

The problems I am having

I download the kakewalk iso and burn to disc.

I boot from the disc, and it tells me to

“eject the bootloaded and insert the 10.6 retail dvd and hit f5”

This works fine, but then apple screen goes dark grey and gives me an error about needing to reboot, I re read the instructions and it seems I need to enable AHCI/HPET 64bit etc.

So I set all the bios settings according to the guides, however I am no longer able to boot from the CD, I no longer get to the screen where it says insert the retail DVD, it just ignores the disc and boots from the first HDD, I also tried putting the kakewalk .iso to a usb stick, but get the same problem.

I have literally spent hours trying to get this to work, hit f12 and choose the CD or Pioneer DVD drive or USB drive, changing the boot order to CD then HDD or to USB then CD then HDD.

Can anyone suggest a way to get this working, the board is good, it is the board the kakewalk was meant for, there is a thread in the guides section that specifically deals with the board and kakewalk, I have read the thread but there is no mention of my problem, and I am not allowed to post there.

SOLVED: for some reason this board has difficulty booting from CD/DVD with AHCI turned on.

The solution is to hit f12, but before you select CD or DVD drive you wait for about 15 seconds, wait until the light turns off on the DVD drive so it is no longer spinning then press CD or DVD drive, boots immediately!
