colin
So. I purchased an ECS 945G-M3, Pentium D 945, 2GB Corsair DDR2 RAM, a Radeon X1600PRO and a few other tiny things. I built the system. When I try to turn on the computer only the fans come on, no display signal or anything like that. I've built a lot of systems in my day and I'm thinking it's a bad processor. Another weird thing about the situation is the power button turns on the computer but can't turn off the computer (part of what leads me to think it's the processor.) Can anyone shed any light on this? Thanks! -Colin Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/25200-i-purchased-an-ecs-945g-m3/ Share on other sites
gwprod12
Things to consider. Video Card Installed Improperly Hard Drive Ribbon Cables plugged in wrong (same goes for CDROMs) Floppy Drive Ribbon Backwards (9 times out of 10 this is why I get that problem, which is why I dont use floppies anymore) Bad Memory Bad PCI device (unlikely) In order for a power supply to turn on, it has to receive a signal from the motherboard. The motherboard wont give that signal if the processor is bad (usually). colin
I tried removing the video card and just using GMA950 (onboard) I've disconnected all IDE and SATA cables No other PCI devices... Thanks for your help! Swapping the RAM made no difference. I still can't get a POST. Any more ideas? bofors
Is there a speaker connected so that you could hear a BIOS error code? Disconnect and reconnect all PSU connections to motherboard, make sure your are no missing anything. Try to isolate the RAM question (is it good?) if possible by putting it in a working machine and vice versa. You might also try re-seating the processor in its socket, after checking for any evidence of mis-seating. colin
No PC speaker on the board, which is ridiculous design.... I've tried reconnecting everything several times I'm pretty certain the RAM is good. I tried each stick one at a time. I've reseated the processor once already. Ideas? lol :-( GOT IT! needed to plug in the 12 volt connector! lol.
