Hello,

New user here - been lurking around digesting and finally tried to install Snow Leopard 10.6.3 on my PC with Mohamed's AMD guide, and it WORKED! for a little while, until I messed it all up.

I burned several boot CD's - Hack OSX, the one in Mohamed's guide, Nawcom's CD, Easy EFI, the Legacy Boot CD, ##### (I know, I have AMD), and the Nawcom Mod CD, which finally let let me install.

So, I was up, on the desktop, and still following the guide, and updated to 10.6.5, which killed my USB support. I found a solution with the 3rr0rist USB fix, but couldn't access it without a mouse or keyboard, which are both USB. I booted into my Windows 7 drive, and got MacDrive, and I pasted the 10.6.4 kexts for the USB fix into the extensions folder, and after some boot flagging, I was able to get back in with just a PS2 keyboard, and navigated around to run the 3rr0rist fix, which worked!

The guide seemed a little convoluted to me at this point, because it talks about getting the system to boot from HDD, and it said I could use the latest bootloader, or do it manually, then went on with some Terminal commands, which I assumed the bootloader would take care of. I used the Chameleon 2.0 RC5 r643 to no avail. I could still boot from the Nawcom Mod CD, though.

Trying to be smart, I switched my boot file with Kabyl's boot CD, and that still didn't work. I booted into the Mac partition and installed the 10.6.6 AMD Kernel package. I also went through and copied Mohamed's Mach_Kernel into the root, arbitrarily ran Pfix, changed the boot.plist, and now I can't boot from the Nawcom Mod CD anymore, it hangs while doing some USBF stuff.

I can't boot my Mac partition anymore, but I was wondering if I could just paste in other kernels and boot.plists (or something?) from Windows using MacDrive? I know it's not the proper way to do things, but I really don't want to reinstall everything for hours/days.

Any thoughts?

Ok, an update.

I thought I had messed everything up completely, so I started from scratch. Messing with this installation is really helping me understand how it all works, so I think I might have figured out some things.

I reinstalled Snow Leopard Retail 10.6.3 again using the Nawcom Mod CD. This time it installed faster (I don't know if flagging it -force64 had anything to do with that). I decided not to update it to 10.6.5 or 6.

I installed the bootloader with the Terminal, and when i restarted, the Apple logo did the "loading" thing for a while, followed by that "no" symbol - you know, the circle with the line through it, like "no smoking"... what do you call that?

I tried all different various flags, and switched bootloaders, but i could never get it to boot from the hard disk.

I thought it was a kernel problem, so I installed the 10.6.6 kernel with 64-bit support. It works, though there were more errors during the Nawcom boot. It even automatically detected my graphics card. BUT, when I tried to use the Chameleon bootloader, the system immediately went into kernel panic.

Basically, after a lot of tries, my conclusion is that there's something on the Nawcom Mod CD that I'm not getting with any of the bootloaders. I wonder what it could be...

I booted my hack with the nawcom cd again, and dug into the actual cd from the desktop, where i found a package for "chameleon more", and installed it. i figured it would be the bootloader that i was looking for, since it obviously boots from the cd.

now i can't even boot from the cd. it goes all the way to the end and hangs.

i have no idea how to get this thing to boot from the hard drive.
