I tried booting from my cousin's MacBook installation discs, and though they did boot, I received an error message like "This software cannot be installed on this computer." Why? Because my HDD is partitioned? Or, because it's already installed? Or because this software is exclusively for MacBooks...?

Intel... And, believe it or not, I just found out, the MacBook install discs are exclusively for MacBooks, and won't work on any other machine. Boooooooo.

Apple has been doing that for a while. We purchased some G5's last year, and one came with 10.4.3 install DVD, which was the most recent. I needed to install a fresh copy on another machine, so I tried installing it on there, and it wouldn't let me (not supported, etc.).

They have a (gestalt?) check and the DVDs are stamped specifically for that check.
