PueloCesar
Hi all, I'm using OSx86 here at my celeron d, and I'm surprised with it's performance! Much better than my Ubuntu installation. But I installed Photoshop CS2, which one is not an Universal binary, and it was terrible slow. I know the cause is the Rosetta kind of' emulation of ppc, but also my video card doesn't support QE and Ci, so my question is: Will Photoshop run better if i buy a card that supports QE and CI? Or I need to wait for 2007 when Adobe will release the new version of it's suite, that will be compiled in Universal Binary? Thanks! tomnic
Surely the second option you've said is more important to give a noticeable performance boost... Try to contact somebody who has an X1600 or a GMA900/950 and ask him if photoshop is as fast as yours!!! DiaboliK
if the slowness fo cs2 is bugging you. try cs1. people have reported to run smoother and faster than cs2. i do also have qe/ci on my gma900 it helps a bit butnot much. i get the same results with an nvidia5700le. ps. photoshop loves ram and scratch disks. the more it has the better(faster) it runs. mmk
I think performance in Photoshop comes mainly from processor. Maybe it will run faster with QE/Ci ... but not that faster,,,, I used Adobe Lightroom with and without QE, and it's not that much of a difference. It is faster with QE. ... but like 5, max 10% faster... So it is not worth it to get a better video card just for that,,, Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/24974-photoshop-rosetta-and-qe/#findComment-168917 Share on other sites
PueloCesar
Thanks for the help I think I'll install photoshop 7. There are no reason to use the newer, there are no great changes I can't live without in cs2 thanks again Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/24974-photoshop-rosetta-and-qe/#findComment-169206 Share on other sites
Franzy
just to clarify, QE/CI may probably have an impact on the performance factor, but it the fact that photoshop isn't yet a binary that supports intel based macs, the performance will be incredibly disappointing. This is a reason why i tell people intel based macs aren'ts alll what their crackd up to be (yet). They may be - 2x faster, 4xfaster, etc but the performance will not be seen in programs not running in universal binary. It will be slow and buggy and crash frequently in the emulation. My advice to apple would've been to stay w/ PPCs , perhaps work on the overall performance, but stay with that architecture. Whatever, im running mac on all the dells in my house, so its cool w/ me Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/24974-photoshop-rosetta-and-qe/#findComment-169358 Share on other sites
