davabran
My friend sold me his dell inspiron 5100 for cheap because the screen was pretty much shattered. But i got a descent laptop already so i took the processor out and was wondering if i could use it in a desktop board to make myself a mactel. The thing boots up, and you can see the laptop works fine in a corner of a screen so the cpu is good. All i know is its a Intel Pentium 4 processor at 2.40 GHz 478 pin PPGA Package 533 MHz system bus 512 KB L2 Cache Size Core Voltage: 1.300 with this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16813157075 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/2495-quick-question/ Share on other sites
arsenalsam7
i have the 5100 with the same cpu and i have opened it up far enough to actually remove the cpu, it is a standard ( non mobile ) pentium 4 socket 478..i would say yes it would work on a desktop board Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/2495-quick-question/#findComment-16211 Share on other sites
larrybird
What about sticking in another socket 478 processor in an i5000? My laptop currently has a 2.4 GHZ P4 in it, but on Newegg there's a socket 478 P4 EE 3.7 GHZ available. I'm thinking in addition to the FSB frequency (which is probably incompatible with the board) how much of an issue would heat become? Also, there's a Pentium Mobile listed under socket 478. How much would this improve my battery life or processing power? Is it even worth $100 to upgrade to this?
