So here's another dinosaur I've decided to work on. So far, there have been very few headaches. I know a lot of people will probably think "why would you waste time getting osx to run on old stuff" and I say "why not"? :)

Anyway, here's the hardware:

CPU: Pentium 4 Prescott (SSE2/SSE3) 2.4 GHz

Chipset: 865G/ICH5

Video: nVidia GeForce FX 5200 - 128MB/AGP/Dual-VGA

Audio: ADI SoundMAX 1985 (DEAD - blah)

Memory - 1.5GB DDR (3 x 512MB)

Notes:

I used a distro to get a base install up and running. Once I have the system running as I'd like it, I would like to create a boot-132 disc and do a clean retail install.

Current status:

System is running 10.5.8 with the following modifications:

 • Voodoo 9.8 kernel
 • Disabler.kext
 • NullCPUPMDisabler.kext
 • NVResolver.kext
 • CoreGraphics framework from 10.5.5, spoofed as version from 10.5.8
 • Chameleon RC5 v700 w/ custom DSDT, SSDT, and smbios.plist

Here's what's working:

 • Most programs and functions
 • QE/CI (Tested w/ Front Row)
 • Ethernet (BCM5781)
 • ATA spoofed as ICH-8 (DSDT Hack)
 • USB spoofed as built-in (DSDT Hack)
 • ISA/LPC spoofed as ICH-8 (DSDT hack)

Here's what isn't working (yet):

 • Sound (I tried using Soundblaster Live card, but it's not working right, so I'm gonna replace)
 • Sleep - I can get it to enter sleep mode but it fails to put the system to sleep.
 • SATA spoofing in DSDT - if the spoof works, devices don't

Other notes:

I'm kinda baffled about the SATA spoofing... the ATA works fine as ICH-8, but the SATA works fine as ICH-5 - when spoofed to ICH-8 devices are not detected, but ioreg shows SATA as ICH8... odd

I've also done a bit of research about P-States and C-States - apparently this CPU doesn't support them, and I'll never be able to use native speedstepping on this (because it doesn't exist)...

... more to come

Hi there

I am new here, so if I am doing something wrong, please don't call me an egg.

I have one of these computers and I have been trying to get Leopard or Snow Leopard on it. I have tried multiple bootloaders including BOOT-132, EmpireEFI (multiple versions) an ##### with normal and Legacy versions.

My specs

Intel Pentium 4 2.8Ghz Northwood, (originally came with the P4 2.4ghz Prescott that you have, but in an attempt to replace it, I put it in the wrong way and broke one pin. ;)

(the motherboard that came with it),

80gb SATA hd x2

1.5gb of DDR RAM (2x 512mb, 2x 256mb)

I have Vista installed on one of the HDs, and am planning to install one of these OS's on the other.

I have been using an OEM copy of Leopard (Labelled version 1.1) (Please excuse me if I am incorrect, but I think OEM is the ones that come with a new PC.)

I also have been using a retail copy of Snow Leopard (Original Retail Disk)

Could you please give me a "walkthrough" on how I can install it, or if I am doing anything wrong, how can I fix it?

The bootloaders either give me errors, reboot or stay on the apple logo/chameleon logo.

Great work GhaleonX!

Also, could you keep this updated!

Wow, I'm SO very sorry for overlooking your question - if you're still needing an answer, my recommendation is to use nawcom's mod cd with a retail OS X disc (not one that came with a computer, as those are more hardware-specific). Once you have an install you can boot into, you can start cleaning up the dsdt if you're interested.
