Hello, everyone! I come from a world of Windows and Linux where things are more widely supported. When a client came to me 2 years ago and said the word "Hackintosh" it set the gears in my brain turning, clinking, and clanking to the tune of "This is another field I must master!" :thumbsup_anim: . Ever since then I've taken my knowledge from 15+ years of Windows, Linux, and traditional Macintosh building, repairing, hacking, networking, etc...and tried to use it to add this "Hackintosh" style to my arsenal. So far there have been few successes and many failures. If I've learned one thing it's that this "Hackintosh" style hacks you...you don't hack it.

That's it for an introduction for now. On to the pain!

As you may have noticed with my Topic Title I have an HP DV6875SE that I'm currently working towards getting a version of Mac OSX onto. I've done just about everything but be successful in my endeavor, hahaha! I've tried using ##### New, ##### Legacy, iPC 10.5.6 PPF5 Universal, Mac OS X 10.6.1-10.6.2 by HAZARD, and iATKOS S3 V2. All with varying degrees of failure. I bought Mac OS X 10.6.0 Snow Leopard from the Apple Store (hell as far as I'm concerned). I bought a Broadcom BCM94321MC 802.11a/b/g/n WIFI card (which I needed to hack the BIOS whitelist to make work BTW). I've been from the moon and back, basically. Now I'm about to set my head on fire. I went on YouTube recently and I found someone who has MacOSX 10.5.6 fully installed on my exact laptop (except for the sleep function) but regardless of all my efforts to try and contact him I've heard nothing back.

Now I turn to you. Is there anyone out there who can help me? I would like to get Mac OS X 10.6.0 Snow Leopard or newer installed onto this laptop. Thank you in advance to anyone who can help me! If you need any further information I would be more than happy to provide you with it.

Look for something with similar specs to your system

CPU- MB chipset -video etc

http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&...mp;aql=&oq=

Research is the key, and you will learn more and have an install that is easier to troubleshoot with a retail install than a point & click Distro

Thank you for the link but I've done about a month's worth of research and I've come to this point. I tried to use ##### (New & Legacy) with my retail copy of Mac OS X 10.6.0 Snow Leopard and all I get is the gray screen over the Apple logo telling me to restart my system. I can give you my hardware specifications if that helps?

If anyone needs more then let me know. Thanks!

Whats the CPU?

What, if any, boot flags have you tried? -v ?

Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T5550

1.83 GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 667 MHz Front Side Bus

I have tried these boot flags with ##### (after pressing F5 and having the option "Mac OS X Install DVD" highlighted):

-x

-xv

Both resulted in what I refer to as "The Gray Screen Of Restart Purgatory" haha. Anything I should try next? Should I try just "-v"? Thank you for sticking with me and trying to help!

Yes of course try -v by itself. That is the first to try as it give you a text output of the boot progress. I am surprised you have not come across that in your research.

-xv will not do anything. All the boot flags are separated by a space. So to boot verbose(-v) and safe mode(-x) it would be -v -x

You may also have to try cpus=1

EDIT What kernels have you tried?

I have come across the use of "-v" in my research but I did not use it in conjunction with #####. I hadn't found anyone until now that could do anything with the verbose output of the "-v" boot flag yet. I currently have it up now. What would you like from it?

As for the kernels I've used...Every one on the iPC distro I mentioned above and whatever iATKOS S3 V2 uses by default. So far I've gotten it to boot to that "Welcome" in many languages video with iATKOS but then my laptop trackpad and keyboard wouldn't allow me to go any further. It kept asking me to plug them in even though they were just working to install it in the first place.

Even though the vanilla install would be MY preferred method, forget it for now, seeing you can get iATKOS S3 V2 to boot & install.

You can use the trackpad & keyboard when booting from iatkos because it has the drivers for them. They are ps2 devices (again research).

Try reinstalling and pick the option for a an "Extra' folder which I believe that distro has. Also pick the option for ps2 either appleps2 or voodoops2, not both. Alternate is to use USB keyboard & Mouse until you install the correct ps2 kext.

Thanks for your help. I already did the research or else I wouldn't be here asking questions. I got it working with some trial and error. The voodooPS2 driver wasn't working so I had to use a USB keyboard and mouse to install OS X and find the right driver. Now, I have Mac OS X 10.6.3 installed and I'm currently typing this post to you on my laptop. Now that I have it installed...where do I go from here? The only extra driver I installed was the Wireless Broadcom driver for my BCM94321MC Wifi A/B/G/N (also whatever was default with the iATKOS S3 V2 disc). I also noticed when I close the lid it freezes instead of sleeping. I've tried researching these things but from not growing with the knowledge and just jumping into it as I have it's hard to know what I should be doing. I know there was an option for SleepEnabler during install but now that I have it working I'd rather not start back from square one. Hahaha.

If you could help me with that by pointing me in the direction of CURRENT information I should be following instead of me looking myself and finding things that might just be too old, I would appreciate it. I also need my graphics card installed I believe and I don't know whether to use NVEnabler or an EFI String (however the hell I find one for my 8400M GS is beyond me as I've already looked and could only find a string for a 8400GS).

Thank you very much again!

Unfortunately research is just plain hard work but there are tricks.

eg a search "site:insanelymac.com Geforce 8400M GS snow" gives 1.130 results, use more tools in the google page then results for the last 12 months are 146. [ http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&...mp;aql=&oq= ] and if you find you do need a string, you can write it yourself (gfxutil) . Other searches like OSX86 + "search term" or hackintosh + "search term" are good too.

Sleep can be a real problem on a Hackintosh, my advice is turn it off in "System Preferences" until you have researched it fully, it may never work on that system! If you end up installing a sleep enabler kext have a strategy to undo any problems it may cause (search "how to delete a kext in Single User Mode)

My strategy is to have a bootable backup on an external drive using Carbon Copy Cloner (donation ware) & Chameleon boot loader. That way any problems with installing anything can be easily fixed.

Thanks for the search tips. I currently use all of the tips you have mentioned except for the "site:insanelymac.com" preface to Google searches which I will now be adding to my arsenal. I wasn't able to find anything that was up to date on my 8400M GS. There were a number of posts recommending NVEnabler but I'd rather use an EFI string and those posts were from 2007. I'll look into writing my own using gfxutil but if anyone sees this and has an EFI String for my GPU I would greatly appreciate it if you could send it to me VIA PM or as a post to this thread.

About my laptop sleep issues...I'll just play with kexts until I figure out what works for me. Thanks for the help again!

To everyone else...Please comment if you can add anything! I would love as much input as possible pertaining to my specific laptop! Thanks in advance!

Also, once I get this project completely finished and rock solid I'll post a YouTube video tutorial going through the whole process (specific to the DV6875SE of course).

This search (adding the hardware id) http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&...mp;aql=&oq=

This post says it works with "GraphicsEnabler=Yes" http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...t&p=1557219

That would be

<key>GraphicsEnabler</key>

<string>y</string>

in com.apple.Boot.plist . He does not say what version of Chameleon, but 2RC5 should do it. Worth a try.
