Looking for advice on Gateway MA8 series laptop

Hello everyone,

This is my first post here.

I want to dive right into the issue that I have found, I started trying to run the iDeneb distro and it hung at boot, I then switched to the iAtkos distro, it works great! except for; I cannot get the thing to display. after an install I get music playing, great, but I have no picture, the grey apple comes up, it pinwheels for a moment and then the screen turns a light blue for 10-15 seconds, then black, and music starts playing. I let it go for about 10 minutes and the display never came back up.

 

System specs:

Gateway MA8, unknown model number.

Sorry, all I know is that it has a realtek81812L wireless card, a Pentium Dual-Core processor, and an intel GMA900 integrated gpu.

 

I would have known more, had I bought it, but it was a selvaged laptop from a friend. I am running it into an external monitor via VGA, because I had to remove the monitor when friend broke the lid hinges and the back light went out. .

 

in both iAtkos and iDeneb I get touchpad mouse and the monitor working just fine, its not until it installs on iAtkos that the display disappears. Its also not an immediate off, there was a quick fade.

 

any advice would be appreciated!
