SykD
Hello, I've been having an issue while updating from 10.6.0, 10.6.1, and 10.6.2 to 10.6.3 or above. I'm using a Toshiba Qosmio X505-Q865 Laptop with Intel Core i5 430m GTS 360m OS X is on it's own HDD and I'm booting from an ##### disk with a retail install. Towards the last few minutes of the installation I get a kernel panic involving acpi_smc_platformplugin. I've tried booting after this with verbose and It hangs on Nvenabler: Probe failed and I tried booting in verbose with safe mode and it hangs on DSMOS has arrived. I've been going at this for at least 20 hours all together. Your help would be appreciated. SykD
I was able to successfully install a Retail copy of the 10.6.3 disk (had to remove IOFireWireFamily.kext due to kernel panics). I tried running the 10.6.6 Combo update but towards the end, in the same place, I got a kernel panic, but this time it was due to IOFireWireFamily.kext (from the update). I'll see what I can do to work around this. I see you have ##### disk. It could be related to CPU Power management so try booting with GeneratePStates=Yes and GenerateCStates=Yes. It could also be related to IOPlatformPluginFamily.kext. You will need to search for a suitably patched IOPlatformPluginFamily.kext. SykD
Thank you for your input FKA I'll try those strings if I ever run into that kernel panic again. The odd thing is that I only get that panic while doing system updates. I'm not too concerned about it considering it didn't show up when I tried to update from 10.6.3, unless it would have occurred after the firewire kext loaded. I managed to Get it to 10.6.6 retail like this: 1. Burn a copy of the 10.6.3 Install disc with IOFireWireFamily.kext removed (only because that kext gives me a kp) 2. Install OS X via ##### (While the restart count down was going I opened the terminal to delete IOFireWireFamily.kext) 3. Install it a second time on a separate partition (Removed firewire kext again) 4. Boot into the second installation 5. Run 10.6.6 Combo Update and select the drive of your first installation. 6. Use finder to delete the IOFirewireFamily.kext in your first drive if you need to I tried doing it this way with the 10.6.0 retail disk but the 10.6.3 update can't be done from a separate installation. I fixed the long waiting for DSMOS by fixing some ownership by putting this in the terminal cd / sudo chown root:admin /. My only problem left now is getting my audio input, or built in mic to work, and getting sleep to fully work. I'm currently using AppleHDA, voodoohda sends me instantly into a kernel panic. When I close the lid or put it to sleep manually the screen will turn black and everything seems to have stopped, but normally my power light blinks when it's fully asleep and also It cannot wake from sleep in OS X. Probably related to my acpi, do you think it may be related to my processor not reaching the a c-state? FKA
As I said - Boot with GenerateCStates=Yes, GeneratePStates=Yes. You can do this at boot promt if booting from ##### - and see how you go! What version of Chameleon have you installed? Or have you not got that far yet? gripp35
I also was completely unable to update from 10.6.0 (to any update). Luckily I was able to get 10.6.3 Install from my University. Once I installed with 10.6.3 Install Disk, I was able to update to newer versions. I am currently at 10.6.6. Please note, after an upgrade (normal upgrade to 10.6.6), I deleted the "AppleIntelCPU*.kext" and "AppleIntelHD*.kext" from /S/L/E and then ran ##### (in "Easy" mode). Then restarted and it seems to be working. Look guys - it is well documented that you need to use either a NullCPUPowermanagement.kext and OR enable CPU Powermanagement using a version of Chameleon that supports this by using - as stated above GenerateC and PStates=Yes, when updating! Try reading a suitable guide for your system - and learn something! Running around deleteing kexts IS NOT THE CORRECT WAY TO GO! Goodbye! D I tried those strings, they had no effect on sleeping or waking, I didn't test if it fixed the updating kernel panic considering it's already up to date. I'll try using a NullCPUPowermanagement.kext.
