Hi,

So I am Leopard user for several years which has been running smoothly on my Asus P5LD2-SE motherboard.

But with Snow Leopard I am utterly stuck. I have tried all sorts of ways to install it, with retail DVD, from USB stick, with pre-made distributions, and they all end up the same way.

As soon as the installar GUI enter the first screen (language selection) I cant move my mouse nor use my keyboard. So I cant get further. Both are USB. And I have tried different keyboards and mouse without success. They all work fine in Leopard.

I did manage to install Snow Leopard from within Leopard, however when starting I only get to a screen that says "There isnt a keyboard connected, please connect a keyboard..." And I cant get further. So in the end, same problem.

My motherboard is listed as compatible with these notes:

- Kexts on EFI partition fakesmc and AppleIntellPIIXATA also DSDT patch

Honestly I dont really get what that means but I seriously doubt it has anything to do with my problem. Or?

I've been googling alot but cant find anyone using USB keyboard and mouse who get stuck because the installer dont recognize them....

Oh, I tried it on my laptop and had no problems at all. But I dont want Snow Leopard on my laptop, I want it on my desktop computer.

I also tried installing Snow Leopard using WM-Ware in Windows, and had no problems using the mouse and keyboard during installtion. But I wanna use Snow Leopard "for real", not emulated in WM-Ware...

Anyone has any idea at all what to do? Except buying a new mobo...

I've been researching USB problems and found some info relating to a mis-match in kernels. The solution I've found (but not tried yet) is to replace the legacy_kernel with the mach_kernel.

Once I learn more about this, I'll post an update.

Good luck!

You tried it yet? Any luck?

But can I replace the kernel before even installing? I've been researching it and everything I find is about replacing the kernel in an already installed system. Most of these changes involves booting from the installation-disk/DVD and doing some terminal commands, but since I dont have a keyboard in the installation... I cant...

Well, I got it working by installing through WM-ware eventually. I am not sure if it was any of the kexts I added or if it was pulling the USB plugs in and out that did it but eventually it detected my keyboard and mouse and now I run Snow Leopard 10.6.6 natively (no WM-ware) with everything working (so far, knock on wood).

So, for future reference if anyone runs into the same problem, try a native install using WM-ware, there a guides for that if you google it.
