colbernrae
I'm looking to build a hackintosh to achieve the best possible performance in photoshop and the adobe suite, although final cut studio speeds are still a consideration. I'm buying an i7 950 (overclock to 4ghz), a sapphire HD5870 1GB and a GA-X58A-UD7 motherboard. My question is in order to achieve better performance, which is superior: a 6GB Corsair Dominator-GT Kit running at 1600MHZ with 7-7-7-20 Latency for $350 OR a 12GB Corsair Dominator Kit running at 1600MHZ with 9-9-9-24 Latency for $330? Thanks! Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/244238-ram-cas-latency-and-performance-in-photoshop/ Share on other sites
Gringo Vermelho
If your primary concern is latency then underclock the RAM and set lower latencies manually in the BIOS. The spec sheet of the RAM (find it at Corsair's website) should show you which latencies you can run it at at slower speeds. Or, once you have the RAM installed, you can use CPU-z, it can read this information from the SPD directly. I wouldn't worry about latencies and just go for the 12GB kit.
