xinthemourningx
Hi everyone. This is my first post here and I need some advice. Im think of building a osX86 PC. Tell me what you think of this hardware and if you think I'd be able to run osX86 natively without a prob. AOpen i915Ga-PLF 915G Socket 775 ATX Motherboard Intel Celeron D 330J Socket 775 Processor 512MB PC3200 DDR Ram Seagate 80GB IDE 7200RPM Hard Drive Generic case and psu I don't care about a cd burner just yet. I def want audio working. Also, I use wireless internet and I realize I may need a new wireless pci card since I doubt my dlink dwl-g510 works. If it does let me know and I'll be happy :-) The cpu i chose above has SSE3 AFAIK. Also, the mobo has the integrated GMA900 video, integrated azalia 7.1 audio (intel hd i suppose). It has lan too but as I said I use wireless. I also don't really care about firewire as I have no firewire devices. Also my mouse and keyboard are PS/2 but if I need to buy USB ones to make it work with the hardware above then thats not a problem. So tell me what you think. Thanks guys! xinthemourningx
Well I went for it. Heres my PC Aopen i915Ga-PLF Mobo (love it -- using rev 1.00 bios) Intel Celeron D 330J CPU (2.66GHz) w/ stock cooler 512MB PC3200 DDR Ram Ultra Brand (SPD @ 8-4-4-2.5) Seasonic 380w PSU 13.5GB Western Digital ATA Hard Drive Belkin F5D7050 USB Wireless 54g Adapter (Surprisingly excellent) Belkin USB keyboard & mouse Using integrated video (gma 900) and audio (azalia 7.1). I installed with the deadmoo flat img. In order for this to work properly I had to do many things. I'm not gonna go thru the whole process, im just gonna mention the important stuff 1. Deleted the appletpmacpi.kext 2. Deleted the appleintel830.kext 3. Deleted the applefpmemdriver.kext 4. Deleted the applertl8169ethernet.kext 5. Applied the coregraphics patch since i got a SSE3 CPU 6. Deleted mailman folder from system/library/startupitems 7. Created a new user account 8. Installed wireless adapter drivers (installed them, created new profile in the wireless utility, deleted automatic location in network and created a new one with the new card en0) 9. Set safari to open with rosetta 10. Modded my com.apple.boot.plist file to load platform=x86pc (you'll want to do this with my aopen board) 11. Went to audio midi setup in utilities folder and set up my 5.1 audio If you have any questions about what I did please let me know. I highly recommend all the hardware I have. It seems to run both Ubuntu linux and OS X X86 quite well. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/2436-i-need-advice/#findComment-16958 Share on other sites
duncanidaho
xinthemourningx, Did you ever use onboard LAN? I have the same motherboard but can't get it to work. I get assigned an IP address in System preferences but OS X won't connect to the internet through my cable modem, with or without a client ID. Thanks!
